NJ DIS Meet to Benefit GKTW - July 16! $1750.00 RAISED!! WAY TO GO! UPDATE in #293!

We plan on attending. There will definitely be 5 of us, possibly 6. DD12 may have a committment that day....we're waiting to find out. Thanks for coordinating all this!!!

Hi, my name is Christine and I'm a Disney addict and I will be attending the meet and participating in the silent auction. :rotfl:

Bumping this up to keep the activity going.

Post here (for now) if you plan to come. We'd like to have more info on who's coming since the rooms are limited in size. Please list everyone's first names (for name tags), and if there are kids, their ages please.

I'd like to meet some other NJ Dis-ers, so count me in. If I come, I'll bring an item for a silent auction, probably a piece of handmade jewelry.

I'll be there!

Name: Janet
Age: Not saying, but my first WDW trip was in 1971 and I did some of the driving to get there. ;-)

As for auction items, I will explore my "vault" of WDW stuff. I know I have a set of two 20th anniversary refrigerator magnets that I can part with. I'm sure there are more collectibles I can contribute as well. If we include non-Disney, I'll bring a few dozen farm fresh organic eggs.

Lois and Greg

we have a few Disney items to donate.

I still don't totally understand the silent auction, but if that's easier I'm all for it!! :thumbsup2

See you then.

Greg (a/k/a the lawyer) also thought there would be legalities to deal with with a 50/50 - too bad.

HI,

Count us in...

Winnie
Brian
Lindsey (7)
Evan (3)
Avery (3)

I can put together a basket of things for a Disney trip.

50/50 definitely needs a permit.

I'm pretty experienced with tricky-tray, so if we want to go that route, it's pretty easy and I can help run it. That way we don't have any last minute rushing with silent auctions.

I'm going! ;)

Nikki

I'm flexible. Whatever you guys decide is fine with me! :thumbsup2

Wow!! We're up to 27 people already! :cool1:

I like the ideas you all have for auction items so far.

Thank you pklein09 and Greg for verifying that a 50-50 would be too much of a hassle. (we don't have a TaxID #, after all)

But I do like the idea of a jar for donations. :thumbsup2

I'm racking my brain over here trying think of other ways to get some funds for GKTW at this event. The auction is a must, plus the jar, but what else can we do? I'd even be willing to somehow tie it into my Disneyland/ABD trip. Any ideas?

Personally, I think whatever items we have up for auction are fine. Our goal is to collect money for GKTW. However we do it is fine with me!

EDIT: Just saw this fundraising idea online...

Board Game Tournament

Create a fun twist on a card tournament and do something that everyone can participate in. Have a Board Game Tournament. Pick a favorite, such as Sorry, Trouble, or Monopoly. Assemble 4 person teams that will work together to accumulate points or you can allow individuals to participate. Charge an entry fee for each team, in order to earn money for your charity. Give a portion of the proceeds as the winning prize or get prizes donated from local businesses. Decide if you are going to play with a time limit for each game so that everyone has the same chance and to keep things running on a schedule. Decide on any “House” rules beforehand. Set up bleachers for the audience and consider having a 50/50 raffle or raffle for door prizes. Definitely have a concession stand with coffee, soda pop, popcorn, chips, hot dogs, and bottled water to earn extra money.

Pretty cool, huh?

I also like the idea of a book swap: charge a few bucks to participate, swap one book for another. A great way to get rid of unused or old books and get new ones!

Just updated the first post of this thread with the current information and attendees. I was thinking each family could pay $10 upon arrival. All proceeds could go to GKTW being that we do not have to pay for the room thanks to Perkins' donating it. We could set up a small area with coloring pages for the kids and maybe some board games. Any thoughts?

Yes- we will eat.
The very kind manager is not charging us for the rooms since we are raising money for Give Kids the World.
I think there is also a minimum food purchase involved- which they are also waiving.

So everyone should come prepared to eat heartily as a thank you for his generosity!!!

*Bumping this up for more participants*

We're up to about 27 people so far!

We will likely need both rooms, so we can use the one that holds 40 people for eating/talking and the other room (holds 25) for the auction and maybe some kid activities. If we do the book swap- we can use a table in there as well.
If we get more than 40 people- we can improvise. :wizard:

** I neglected to say I am coming!! and DH John will likely be there as well. I will be bringing several items for the auction.

Anything and everything is okay for the auction. We will place the items on a separate table along with a list. You bid by adding your name and the amount of your bid. Whoever is last and has the highest bid wins! Both Disney and non-Disney items are welcome!

Remember, our goal is to raise money for Give Kids the World while spending time with fellow Disney fans. Let's do this!

We are In !!! let's get ready to raise money for GKTW:wizard:

Linda and I have been brainstorming a bit over how to bring in extra funds during this event for GKTW. Here's what we came up with so far. Please let us know if you have any other ideas...

- Suggested Donation for Each Family
- Book Swap
- Donation Jar
- Silent Auction

I would really like to see us hit a goal of $500 for this event. I know that's a stretch, but I think we can do it!!! Spread the word!!! NJ DIS Meet 2011 is ON!
