NJ DIS Meet to Benefit GKTW - July 16! $1750.00 RAISED!! WAY TO GO! UPDATE in #293!

Where'd we leave off? Did this get too big to handle?

Anyone want to just meet at Rainforest Cafe or Maggiano's and bring $10 for GKTW? Or, meet for Cars 2 in July at AMC Dine In and bring a donation there?

Hey all you Jersey disr's. I have a quick question that is OT from this thread, but seems the place to ask. My DD has a gymnastics meet on Long Island the first weekend of June(3-5). I think we actually compete on Sat, but are unsure of the time. Anyways We are thinking of making a short trip to Hershey Park, or Great Adventure. I am very familiar with HP considering it has been one of our summer destinations for the last 11 yrs. Not so much with GA. My main question would be how are the crowds the first week in June. I see the park closes earlier on that sun(5th) and Mon(6th), would it be possible to get all the rides in on those two days. Any suggetioons would be helpfull. Thanks alot.

Hershey is a long ways away! GA is much closer. Weekends are tough even though you will be there early in the season. The 4th is the true kick off for the craziness here.....but, traveling down to GA can be a hassle due to shore traffic. Try to go as early as possible. GA has more thrill rides and the safari is pretty cool!

A plus side of Hershey is that the waterpark is included :) and the food at the pub outside the entrance is awesome (Try the penn dutch specials if you do go there, they are awesome).

Do your best to avoid the Garden STate parkway as far as you can for the ride to GA!

I think you're right. As much as I'd love to just sit and chat, I'm sure people with kids would like to see Cars 2 - so, if we're taking a vote, I'm voting for Cars 2.

I personally would not be interested in just a cars 2 meet. While I plan to see the movie, it wouldn't pay for me to drive 1 1/2-2 hours to see it. Of course majority rules.

Okay, I'll contact the AMC Dine-In and see what they can do for us. I'll report back at some point this weekend. :)

In the meantime, anyone want to set up a few small activities in the food court (right next to the theater) for before the movie? I was thinking we could do pin trading, stuff for the kids, etc. and maybe incorporate something else for GKTW. Thoughts? Is that overkill?

Please let us hear your 2 cents worth - if Cars isn't the group fave, we can adjust - how many people would be coming with kids? How many people wold just prefer to have dinner? or meet in the food court, then do dinner?

sorry, I was practicing my thread-killer powers, seems like they still work! :flower3:

:rotfl2:
I have found my powers to be pretty powerful too!

I'm OK with the Cars 2 meet, but would prefer dinner and socializing. I will come either way though.

While I think asking everyone to kick in $10 for GKTW is fine- I am still hopeful we can ALSO do a mini silent auction type thing (or "tricky tray"- a new term I just learned here on the boards this month!!!). That way people can actually take something home AND we give money to the cause.
But I am not certain we can do that in a restaurant. If we have a private room- it might be OK. Some restaurants do have that available.
If we do it in a food court at the mall, we'd probably have to have permission
(but it might be possible).

Anyway- that my 2 cents...

Sorry,I haven't been that active, more stalking than participating.

I too will attend either way depending on the date. I think having something in addition to th emovie is a good dea, because we can chit chat rather than seeing the movies and saying peace out afterwards.

A question... What month are we possibly looking at?
I know last year we did a saturday in July. I believe we did it the weekend after the holiday weekend.

A few years ago the Perkins restaurant near me was fundraising for GKTW. At the time I didn't know what that was all about. Maybe having something at a Perkins would be a good idea?!

I LOVE this idea! :thumbsup2 I had forgotten all about their connection- but now that you mention it, I have heard about it.
On their web page- they even highlight their work with GKTW.

And there are many NJ location. In Central NJ- there's one in Flemington and one in East Windsor.

I'd be willing to contact one of these locations to see if they can hold our group and work with us.

Anyone else like this idea?

VERY good idea!!! I forgot about the connection too. Perkins is easy to work with. I think the Flemington one is most centrally located.

I am in..

Just let me know the details!

I'll call them on Tuesday and see what we'd have to do.

Details soon................

Flemington is not that far for us...and DD & I like Perkins:rotfl: I love the idea of tying in a tricky tray ...My DD LOVES to try to "win" things. and I have a few things that I'll hold back from the yard sale collection for it.
