NJ DIS Meet to Benefit GKTW - July 16! $1750.00 RAISED!! WAY TO GO! UPDATE in #293!

DH Dave (drclaws) and I will be there. I know we have duplicate pins (MVMCP and DVC Merry Mixer at a minimum) and prints and lithographs from the Disney Store (the free ones with video purchase) that maybe someone would want. I'll keep looking.

If there's any interest, I have a very large advertising poster (unframed) for Corning sunglasses. It's for the final episode of MASH.

As far as auction items go- bring whatever you think someone else might like.
We will set a minimum dollar amount on each item and if more than one person wants it- the price goes higher. If something doesn't get any bids at all- please plan to take your items home with you again. No loss- at least we all try!

For the "suggested donation" idea, I was thinking of going to a museum. They often suggest an entry amount, but if you prefer to pay less (or MORE ;)), you can. With the "suggested donation" we may not even need a donation jar. But we can think about that.

For the book swap Nikki proposed, there would be an "entry fee"- say $5- to participate. Once you're in- you can donate any amount of books for swap and then also take an equal amount of books others have donated. I see it as a one for one swap. But can someone get books who hasn't donated any? I supposed so, for the same participation fee?
I have never done a book swap before- so if there is a better idea or method for doing this- speak up!

And lastly- in order to pay any money on this day- please plan for cash or a check made payable to "Give Kids the World- Power of 10 Challenge." If you pay cash, we will work on getting a receipt for your records.

So- what other ideas does everyone have??

For the book swap, all participants will be asked to donate $5 to GKTW and bring books they would like to swap. The books will be placed on a table in one area. When the participant gives in the donation, he will receive a ticket stating how many books were donated and how many he can swap (one book brought = one book you may take). The swapping begins from there. This is a really fun activity and great way to get books at a very cheap price.

Another fundraising idea I had was the pirate game that many play at Christmas. Participants could make a $5 donation to play an dbring a gift under a decided set amount of money. You then switch with the other players. People may "pirate" or steal gifts from each other during the game. Everyone walks away with a gift. It's another fun activity.

Thoughts?

Ooooh! yay for NJ meets. I was at the last 2 Nikki did. :goodvibes
And I lurve me some Perkins! I'm all the way up in Passaic county, but Flemington can't be that far, right?

I was at the GKTW benefit at Hollywood Studios opening weekend and it was amazing where I saw Nikki post and saw her sig. I've got to get on DIS boards more!

I got someone to work for me on July 16th. So I'll be there! Yeah! Not sure if dh and dds will be there too.

YAY!

Please count me in and I may bring 1 more with me if there's room?

FYI for any Great Adventure peeps out there; sometimes their Twitter page has $15 tickets for a limited time. That's how I got in to see GA a few years ago without spending a zillion dollars.

Hi MyMuse! Yes, I definitely remember you from the meets! We actually have a few that attended our Rainforest Cafe meet last year coming. It'll be great to catch up! Please bring as many people as you'd like. :)

I remember you from The Rainforest Cafe - the one that Nikki couldn't make it too.

Lois, she was at last year's Rainforest meet too! Boy, we have done a bunch of Rainforest meets. Good time to try something new. ;)

I just stumbled upon this post, rarely leave the CB but was following links for MinnieLor to this page.

I went to a NJ DIS meet a few years ago in Atlantic City at the RFC, it was fun. I live just a few miles away from Flemington, NJ and pass that Perkins often on my way to my gym, but am moving to China for an extended time with the family the week before the meet.

I'd love to participate in some way, even though I won't be there in person. Please let me know if I can send along a donation to count towards the day's take.

Good luck and enjoy! Hope to be back for the next NJ DIS meet in late 2012.

Hi Hillbeans! I'm sad to hear that you won't be able to join in this meet. If you'd like still like to donate, you can visit the below page and make an online donation. Just put a note in the box saying it's for the NJ DIS Meet donations.

Thanks and enjoy China!! Don't be a stranger while you are there. The DIS is worldwide. ;)

Glad you'll be able to make it Michele!

YAY! :wave2:
Howdy peoples! I'm glad there will be a few familiar faces. It makes it that much easier to meet everyone. :goodvibes

My friend cannot make it. I talked with her last night and it turns out she's taking an impromptu trip to WDW the next day! lol So, I'll just be me :drive:

If anyone is into Vinylmations, there is a NYC meet this Saturday at 2pm in Times Square. Oooh, maybe it can be a silent auction item??

I guess we weren't at last year's.
I remember Michelle and Phyllis too (from the Poconos?)
Ros Tobe was at the one I went to, so was Linda.
We have a white Mickey curio cabinet and also Mickey hands clothes holders (like robe holders for a bathroom). We have them out for a garage sale tomorrow, maybe we should hold on to them for the silent auction. What do you think?:confused3

HELLOOOOO NJ!! What a fantastic idea!! I would love to be included- as long as I don't have a baseball conflict (2 of my boys play travel ball in July) I will see you there! :thumbsup2

Welcome Ellen!
Glad to have you. Let us know when you get the baseball schedule.

I didn't make it to last year's meet either... but here's the group from the August 2009 RFC meet in Menlo Park. (** I wish I knew how to make the photo smaller...)

Front to back on the left- Ros, Linda(me), Lois, Greg
Front to back on the right- Michelle, Phyllis, Frank and the girls (sorry I'm not sure which one's Kaleigh and which one's Rebecca)

Notice I'm the only one who still has food on the table! I talk too much to make it through a meal in a timely fashion! :rotfl:

I need to read the meet board more often. I didn't even know there were NJ meets going on! I don't know you all (except podsnel. Hey Ellen! We need to do lunch soon.) but I'd love to come if I'm not working that day.

Woohoo! The more the merrier! I just added you two to the list in the first post. :)

The 2009 Rainforest Cafe meet was when I got food poisoning the night before and couldn't go. Lois, you didn't make last year's because of some scheduling conflict. We also had it at RC.

Hello all! I haven't been on the board for awhile, but Nikki filled me in on facebook, and my daughter, Amanda (almost 6 this month!) would love to come!

Thanks again Nikki for the invite :-)

cool! and I do have a handbag looking thing that looks like it came straight out of Animal Kingdom Lodge! I was going to donate it as well, but maybe I'll put it to the side too.

As for the vnylmations, I could definitely bring some and even the new NYC versions. I'll be going back into the City soon enough to buy it.

and yes, that is me in the Menlo Park pic in the lower right hand corner. :goodvibes

I did tell people about it during the vinylmation meet, so maybe a few of them will come too! :thumbsup2
