NJ BeachGirl at heart........

Conclusion # 1. New Jersians (Probably not the right term..what do NJ natives call themselves???...we call them "Tourists") will defend their NJ Shore at all costs.

Isn't that a coincidence....that's exactly what we call you.

This is a little off topic, but it reminds me of how I feel when tourists visit San Diego. I often hear how disappointed they are by our beaches. They expected there to be more sand or they expected it to be warmer, (the water is pretty cold). I don't get insulted, I just feel bad that they don't see the beauty in my state that I see.
Unfortunately, I've never been to Jersey, but you guys make it sound wonderful.
The Carribean waters are amazing; that's part of what makes it so much fun to visit.
Thanks for all the great Jersey info.!

Hey Wendy,

I was to a beach in La Jolla a few years ago. It was a really nice beach somewhat similar to NJ beaches. We had a blast there too! Next summer if we cruise on DCL we may try to go back there. Are there any beaches that recommend visiting in San Diego?

Hi Jlawall!
There are some great beaches here on the west coast. I'm glad you enjoyed La Jolla, which has a beautiful beach.
If you come out next year two beaches to try would be Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, which is good if you have kids. My boys love boogey boarding there and there are numerous, clean facilities to use. You're also right next to Swami's, of which the Beach Boys sang in Surfing Safari.
If you don't have kids and want to have a lot of fun, Mission Beach has all the rollerblading, juggling, surfer types hanging around. It's actually fun for the kids, too.
Have fun whatever you decide!

Wow, thx so much for those tips! Now I just have to book the cruise onboard!

I've never even been to the Jersey shore or anywhere on the east coast but this thread caught my eye. When I first started reading about greenheads I honestly thought they were referring to the people sitting on the beach directly below those seagulls:eek:
My question about beaches is why are some blessed with that beautiful turquoise water and some not? Ever since going to Hawaii last summer we look at the beautiful Northern California beaches and wish for warm turquoise water!

OK, gotta throw my two cents in, since everyone else from Jersey seems to be here! I was born in Woodbury NJ and I live just outside of Philadelphia. Jersey pride or not..... EEEWWWW! Black sticky sand, green head flies, gross hotels... NO COMPARISON. Sure it has it's charms.... Curly Fries, Sorrentos and Mack's pizza, salt water taffy, boardwalk fun, water parks, etc. I vacation there every year and I carry fond memories of senior week into my 30s BUT I'D TAKE THE BEAUTFUL CARIBBEAN WATERS ANY DAY! Call me crazy but thick mucky gray water and black sticky sand can't begin to compare to white powder and crystal clear water.

I'm a Science teacher and I taught a unit on land and water last year.....the color of the water is related to the natural sediment in in the water. Someone already mentioned this on this thread. I have grown to appreciate the beauty of NJ beaches. That's not to say that the port beaches of DCL are not spectacular.

Ok, my turn!!!

LOVE the boardwalk and the beach!!! Love boardwalk fries WITH VINEGAR, the pizza, ice cream....you get the idea. My kids love the rides! Love shopping in all the stores (the Christmas store on the OC boardwalk is the BEST!!!!)

HATE the water.....don't like being in water when I can't see the bottom.
