NJ BeachGirl at heart........

Greenheads are the annoying little biting flies that come out in the summer (I think June and July).

They might be little but they bite like a mother bear protecting her young......they hurt!

I have seen some greenheads(yep they do have green heads) the size of my finger, I swear...and hurt, OUCH plus they leave welts instead of bites. I don't miss them at all.

endowoman -

I PM'd you a while back with a question about NJ beaches.

Anyway, for the record, I didn't take your comment the wrong way. I just thought of it as someone's longing to be back on a Caribbean beach. Wouldn't we all long to be there, no matter where we're from?! Of course, I live in North Dakota and that's as far from the ocean as you can get so any ocean is good for us to see!

Posting on the boards is hard (just like sending e-mails) since people may read your messages differently than you intended. I know it's happened to me in day to day work e-mails - ugh!! So, please don't leave the DIS forums. I, for one, enjoyed your post (and the differing opinions, delivered in a positive manner), as we are traveling to Pennsylvania this year and hope to visit a NJ beach too!

I'm in Brigantine right now and the ocean is beautiful this weekend!! There is nothing like the Caribbean but in the summer any beach will do!!

Yesterday the travel or food channel had features about food at the Jersey Shore. They did a spot with the dunes and beach and water in Ocean City in the background, oh, it was just so beautiful. I need to make a countdown to my next visit to Cape May, it's in 3 weeks!:Pinkbounc

Also, I have enjoyed this thread and think it's a good one, and hope it doesn't chase anyone away from the boards.

MY DD called me from Cape May where she is spending a week. Sitting on her deck overlooking the water this morning she saw a pod of dolphins in the water...she had to call and tell me. Special memories can be made at any place, any time.

I have gone to the NJ shore all my life as well as New England beaches..as well as Castawy Cay 10 times....each is different and special in their own way. I agree that you cannot compare US beaches with the Caribbean...they are two totally different environments.

Aloha!:wave2:

No, I'm not from HAWAII...I'm from JERSEY CITY!!!

But hey, we can dream, can't we???::yes::

Have lived for years just 6 minutes from Shore...Atlantic in our backyard...
Just back from DCL and CC...gotta tell ya folks...I kept saying "THIS IS SALT WATER THE WAY GOD MEANT IT TO BE!!!!!"

Even better than Hawaii, but JMHO, so PLEASE don't take it personally!;)

I can't wait to retire and live near WDW and the GULF on the west coast of FLA...Just prefer those tropical waters:boat:

If only BRUUUUUCE would move to FLA, DH would leave sooner...But as long as there's ANY CHANCE he could still show up at the PONY, I'm trapped in NJ!:teeth: ~Rose~:wave2:

Beleive it or not, I was at Island Beach State Park on Thursday (four days ago)

There was crystal clear water! You could see to the bottom and see shells, fish, crabs, everything.

I told DH this (he was at work), and he said " Well I guess you don't need to go to the Carribean then!"

i am constantly amazed at the degree of emotion the mere mention of the garden state can generate. i was born in newark and raised in south plainfield. we spent every summer at the shore from point pleasant to cape may. my sisters still get season passes to sandy hook and until my parents died we vacationed in ocean city with my family.

now i live in pittsfield, ma over 100 miles from the nearest ocean and if i could change one thing about my life i would move to the jersey shore. it is not the caribbean nor hawaii but it's home and my i belong there. neither the aforementioned beaches nor the cape or rhode island can compare to nj jersey in my heart.

hi jersey shore fans. and yes when you return from any of the dcl stops esp castaway cay. nj beaches just don't cut it. i was also raised in monmputh co. DIS4ME went to RBC and edgewaterbeach club as a kid. now in ocean co go to ortley beach. opened up the disney storein ocean county mall!! worked as a cm for almost 6 yrs! just became dvc last year. looking forward to hopefully cruising out of calf west coast next summer!

mai ku tiki, what was the terrible rumor that the pony wasbeing torn down? As if this could ever happen...I just can't wait to be able to compare the Carribean Beach with the sandy shores of Cape May county. I will love them both, but I too, am a Jersey Girl at heart. You can take the girl out of New Jersey but... ;) ;) ;)

Greenheads are ugly huge flies with......really big green heads! Brigantine used to be really bad for them but now they only show up if the wind is coming off the land. It's alot worse in the bay area. There are also pesky sand flies at the Jersey Shore. If you get Skin So Soft or Off it's not really a problem.

Hey Minnimart:wave:
We lived in Brick when we were first married. Small world huh. I wa born and raised in Monmouth Co though so we moved back.
We go to Sandy Hook more for convenience than anything else.
Island Beach State Park has started looking pretty blue though over the years.
I love the Carribean but in the summer I wouldn't trade in the god Old Jersey Shore.
Finally today we have a day nice enough for the beach.

dis4me, enjoy the day! Mom in Cape May says there were terrible storms down there last night, so the water may be rough today.

I have been following this thread out of curiosity and have come to two conclusions:

Conclusion # 1. New Jersians (Probably not the right term..what do NJ natives call themselves???...we call them "Tourists") will defend their NJ Shore at all costs.

Conclusion # 2. No one else cares!

Not true!

I live in Pennsylvania! I used to not love the Jersey shore but I've learned to appreciate it. I've been to many beaches around the world and none of them are quite as fun as when you're riding the waves on a boogey board in Brigantine. You just can't do that on most other beaches!!
