we usually go to Battleview but we're board w/it i think i've been to the both named but can't remember - do you know which is better do they have pumpkins as well? I remember going to a place w/wheel barrels any clues if its the ones above or do you know the name?

thanx,

the bigger place the better!

or any suggestions of a better place? i'm coming from Staten Island

I've never been to Demarest farms, but we LOVE Eastmont Orchards.

Eastmont has the wheel barrels and they also have pumpkins to pick. They had about 8 different types of apples to pick when we were there 2 weeks ago. Be sure to give them a call before you go to find out what they are picking.

From their website:
FOR PICKING INFORMATION AND OPENING STATUS -
Call (732) - 542 - 5404. Each morning, roughly a half-hour prior to opening, the tape recording is updated to reflect the current product situation. On certain occasions, we get picked out or rained out midday. In the event that such a thing happens, the message will be changed as soon as the appropriate decisions are made. Always call just prior to leaving.

Have fun !

We go to Riamede Farm in Chester, NJ. They have 30 different varietals (and you can call them direct to see which ones are offered when you go). They have a pumpkin patch, and the apple orchards are enormous. Lots of apples, plenty for all.

We'll be there Sunday :goodvibes

lol I JUST called Battleview to see what they will have tomorrow! I have only been there.

Eastmont Orchards - Is that the one in Colts Neck... on the same road a Doorbrook Park (Delicious Orchards orchards are also there)? If so, thats the one we go to, and we really like it. The pumpkin fields are HUGE, and the apples always look good, though we don't get any.

Word to the wise:
We went to Casolla last year (can't remember which one) and it was such a rip off!!!! They had great little things for the kids to do, like a bouncy thing, and animal petting zoo, and corn maze, but they charged like $3 - $4 for each of them!!! By the time you get outa there, its like $75!!!!

WE love Battleview but we've been going there for about 5 years! Love the Apple Cidar Donuts

Not sure what more your looking for. I've picked at alot of different ones but pretty much now just go to Battleview. As one of the previous posts said those ciders donuts don't last long in the car after we leave the store.
I've swore off picking pumpkins anymore. With prices this running
.60-.70 a pound they are not worth it when Shoprite sells nice carving pumpkins for 5-6 each.

DGK's went to Eastmont today with DD's and they picked a bunch of really nice apples. Don't know the other Orchard. Have fun! Grammy

I was at Battleview 2 weeks ago. They have a big selection but it was our 4th trip in 3 years so we were kind of bored too. Apples were either 1.19 or 1.29 a pound.

I went to Demarest Farms about 6 years ago. It was quite a hike up the GSP and with the cost of gas now I wouldnt say it was worth it.( I am in Monmouth County). Small country store to buy baked goods but it wasnt like we had to go back. They charged for everything too...to get on the hayride to be taken to the orchards, polls for picking.

So I am interested in hearing about any new places too.

We were there about two weeks ago and we really enjoyed it. One thing we had to wait at least 30 minutes to get on the hay ride that takes you to the apples. But the apples were DELICIOUS!! my dh made the most amazing apple turnovers!!

We just got back
We picked up Red Del, Empire and Granny Smith's today. We got there slightly later than we wanted to and went back to the store for donuts after picking apples. I kid you not but I waited in a 1/2 line for the donuts. Worth the wait. There was a ton of apples to be has at 1.20 a pound. Pumpkins were .60 a pound. I passed on those and picked up over 40lbs of pumpkins at Shoprite for $12. Here's what's left on thier season

Red Delicious September 20 October 13
Golden Delicious September 20 October 13
Empire September 20 October 13
Jonagold September 20 October 13
Macoun September 20 September 28
