Nissan Leaf for Teenager

Our daughter has a 2003 Nissan Altima with 67000 miles. It had been traded in 20 minutes before we walked on the lot. It has been a good car for her and we're hoping it will last through college. We have had it a year and a half and no issues besides maintenance.

It's hard to tell what your kid's driving needs are going to be, so I would be concerned that the Leaf, with a range of only 100 miles may not the best choice. Hybrids would be fine, as would a conventional gasoline car. You might be able to get a good deal on a VW diesel, but there is a bit of risk there that the final settlement of their smog mess will leave you with a check and a car going to the crusher.
If you have a Hertz Car Sales lot near you, with the exception of Chrysler/Dodge/Fiat, any of the entry level cars they are selling would be a good bet, at a good prices and in good condition.
