EDIT/UPDATE: I attended the auction today. The dude in front of me (Peter Freedman, co-founder of RØDE Microphones) got Kurt Cobain’s guitar... for $5,000,000. $6,100,000 with all fees. A new world record for a guitar. The previous record was $3.95M for David Gilmour's Fender Stratocaster, also auctioned by Julian's. I fist-bumped Peter moments after he won it.
The man in the mask is Lloyd Chiate of LA’s Voltage Guitar who customized and sold it to Kurt for $5,000 in the early ‘90s.

Cobain guitar auction
I stopped by Julien’s Auctions today. This weekend they’ll auction a rare, recently recovered guitar used by Prince and also the 1959 Martin acoustic guitar used by Kurt Cobain when Nirvana recorded their MTV Unplugged show. There was a lot of cool stuff but these were the main standouts for me (also Paul McCartney’s handwritten lyrics to The Beatles’ “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer”). A few pics. The Cobain guitar will go for at least $1M and likely considerably more.
