DD wants a Ninendo DS for Christmas with Nintendogs :)

Do you think it will be better to buy at the airport duty free, or wait and buy in Orlando?

Also, I know it has a mains adapter, if I buy in the UK is the adapter dual voltage so we can charge in the US?
I would imagine you can get suitable mains adapters in the UK to swap for the US one if we buy in Orlando.

Hi there :wave2:

Just a thought, and not sure whether this is still the case, but there aren't many Nintendo DS in the stores and, having glanced at some of the US posters on the site, the problem seems to be over there too :confused3

I was surprised to struggle finding one for DD's bd last week.
Nothing in stock anywhere online but managed to find one at a local branch of Comet and get it brought over :cloud9:

Could have been that it was proving more difficult as she wanted the pink one :goodvibes
She has me on a quest for a 'Pixel Chix' house for Christmas now which is proving equally as impossible to get hold of...... :rotfl:

I know absolutely nothing about adapters etc but know that DH swore by Maplins when he needed to convert his US airbrush compressor ;)

Good luck.

Hey Tim :wave2:

DS wants one too. It looks like a really cute game.

BTW I'm Florida right now, visiting the parents and the weather is glorious. You're going to have a great time.

Alison, they had plenty of DSs in the Big W (Woolworths) shop yesterday in Tamworth. And the Argos site on line seems to have them in stock.

I've checked a few websites in the US (Walmart, Sears etc..), and they all seem to have them in stock.

So perhaps the shortage is over now :)

What's a Pixel Chix? (must be geting old - not up on the latest toys :) ).

Loads of Pixel Chix on Amazon.com!

Price on Amazon.co.uk = £30 (sold out)
Amazon.com = $30

They are this years "thing" Tim, my 9 year old DD is desperate for one but I think they are a load of old rubbish so she will be sorely disappointed on Xmas morning :teeth: ;)

Isn't that the case with most of the 'latest toys' that our kids want :)
I'm sure our parents thought the same thing when we asked for the latest 'must have' when we were kids LOL

I agree completely Tim! It's just this particular toy I know will be a complete 5 minute wonder and never played with again. So it is not darkening my doors this Xmas :teeth:

Anyway sorry, back to your question - Walmart are showing availability if that's any help? We found them a bit cheaper to buy in USA than in duty free but managed to restrain ourselves ;)

Tim - ignore me. You had already checked WalMart. I'm having one of those days ;)

Our DS's bought their DS at Walmart and then when we got home they got a new adaptor from Game. I think it was about £5.

That's a tough decision so here's what I think.

Buying at the airport is 1) cheaper and 2) gaurantees that you can charge in the UK. However, if you buy an adapter for the US in the UK it won't charge becuase of the higher voltage over here.

Getting it in orlando means that you can 1) charge in the US and 2) buy games while your there. However, you won't be able to charge over here (i think) and the games won't be compatable with the ones over here.

So, I think you should get it in the airport and if the batteries run dry, so be it.

I think I've made a decision - I think I will buy in the US, then DD can charge and play with it while we are in Florida :)

Looking at prices, they seem to be about £10-15 cheaper in the US (depending on exchange rate!). But the games seem to be quite a bit cheaper!

Me too - I had to do a 'Google' check....

I have to agree that they look pretty rubbish so I'm glad that I can use the excuse they're sold out right now...... :rotfl:

Tim

The Nintendogs games were much cheaper in the states, when we were there in August I bought Vicki 2 of them in a shop in the Florida Mall. I cant remember the price but I know when they then came out over here just after they were much more expensive.

Hope this helps

They have a limited edition red one which is bundled with Mario Super cart in the US. When we were there in the summer the dogs games were $24.99 which is way cheaper than they are here.

Went to Bluewaters on Saturday and had real trouble getting a DS, J Lewis were out of stock, and Game only had silver - so if you are getting one I'd hurry.

We looked in Orlando in August and they did not work out that much cheaper less than £5 in it, may be its worth looking at Duty Free - I think they have a service where you can buy it and collect it on the return (they certainly have this at stanstead so this would save you from taking to the states and bringing it back again)

As it will be one of my DDs Christmas presents she will want to use it during our trip, so I think I will stick to getting one in the US while we are there.
Looking at the prices in the US they seem to be around $129 (~£78, depending on exchange rates), UK prices seem to be anything from £85 to £99. So not a great saving, especially when you need to get a UK charge when you return to the UK (cheapest I've found is around £5).

The games seem to be so much cheaper in the US though :)

Tim, I've got one which I got in the UK, and it charges fine in the US with a "normal" travel adaptor.

Not sure of the answer, but I would make sure that you can use US machines with UK games.

The DS is not region specific so you can play UK games on a US DS and vice versa.

The games are a lot cheaper in the US as well.
