Can you bring a Nintendo DS on the airplane? Does it have to be packed. What about a portable DVD player??

My kids brought both on the plane last year and there was no problem bringing them or using them during the flight.

I never travel without my DS-- and I'm 31. You should be fine using both of these. You won't be able to use them during takeoff and landing, but once the plane is in the air and at a certain altitude, the flight attendants will usually make some sort of announcement that "portable electronic devices other than cell phones may be used." They'll also let you know when they must be put away-- usually right before landing.

DS's and DVD's are fine - just make sure you have headphones.

It occurs to me that the DS has a wifi chipset in it. I've never thought about it, but you should probably turn that off during flight.

We've never has a problem. Our son takes his every time we fly. Kepps his parents sane:rotfl:

We also take ours - they keep the whole family sane. Just be sure you turn them on and off when the flighht attendents tell you to and at security they like you to take the dvd player ouy and send it thru seperately so be prepared.

Our DD's have taken their DSs and DVD player and never had a problem. The Wifi chip isn't something that can be turned off. You have to go into that mode for it to work. They've never played DS to DS on a plane, just their own games.

As a courtesy to those around you, USE HEADPHONES! My last trip from London to LA I had kid with a DVD player and no headphones. It was torture and his rude parents would not turn it off so the rest of us could get some sleep.

Yes for heavens sake use headphones. On a recent flight back from SC two teenagers were watching a movie, no headphones at a loud leve. The movie had a substanital amount of profane language and such. I was very happy that my 6 year old son was not with me. A mother with young children politely asked them to turn the volume down and the father I beleive of the teenagers snapped at her. Needless to say, we all ended up listening to the vulgar movie for about an hour and a half.

On another note, we have brought a DVD player and Gameboy for our son on numerous flights. Probably will do so again in Sept even though our flight is relatively short. That way our son will have his headphones on and not have to listen to other people's garbage.
