My husband and I have been to the World many times but this time we are taking my nephew
who will be celebrating his ninth birthday during our trip at Christmas. He will be away from his family for his birthday and Christmas.I have two questions:
We would like some suggestions for something special for his birthday. We thought of picking up a cake someplace but not really sure where we could do that.We also thought of taking him for a huge sundae at Beaches & Creme. His parents are also thinking of sending or ordering something but they also don't know quite what to do. Any and all ideas will be welcome.

Secondly,we would like to go to a character meal or two with him. He's made it quite clear that he doesn't like Cinderella because he's afraid of getting kissed. LOL
What would you suggest for a nine year old boy?

Thank you!

I can't help you with the first part of your question.....but in regards to the character meal, I strongly suggest the Villians dinner at the Grand Floridian for a 9 year old boy. We went last year with our friends, and had 4 boys in tow: 4, 8, 9, and 10 years old. A great time was had by all! The food was great, and the Villians were quite amusing. Enjoy your trip, I'm sure it will create a lasting memory for your nephew!

Thank you for your reply. The Villains will probably be perfect for him. I'm now hoping to receive more tips to my other question now. There must be somebody with great ideas.

I don't think they have the villain meals anymore. Sorry. How about the pirates' cruise? My very proper 9 yr old daughter hated it because it got rowdy, but it may be just perfect for a boy.

The Villains dinner was replaced last year by Pooh and Friends.

Call the Disney Florist at 407-827-3505. They have lots of cool gift baskets that can be delivered to your room. They can fax you a brochure.

Sometimes a hotel will deliver a cake for you. Last fall at the Poly we got a cake, plates, candles and party hats in our room because I mentioned it was my birthday.

Let CM's at restaurants and hotels know it's his birthday. you never know what good stuff can happen. My son got a birthday cupcake with a candle at a character meal and Cruella de Vil sang "Happy Birthday" to him. (It's really soooo sad that the Villains meal is no longer.)

If he's not too "cool", you can get a free birthday button at City Hall in the MK. Wearing it all day sometimes gets you noticed.

I have heard good things about the pixies at giftsofalifetime.com. Apparently they can do all kinds of cool things for a birthday.

His parents could send him a Disney Character Cookie Bouquet from www.cookiesbydesign.com. They look great! We also plan to take my son, who just turned 10 this week, out in the mouseboats. He is going to love that.

We are doing the character dinner at LTT because we like the food and the character interaction, but frankly, I don't expect my son to be that into the characters. It's more for his younger brother and sister.

Thank you all for your wonderful ideas. I really appreciate them.
I'm wondering now if it's possible to have a cake delivered to Fort Wilderness. This is our first time camping in a trailer so I really don't know if they have deliveries like that.

Take him to the Campfire at FW and they'll ask who has a birthday--he can go up on stage and the crowd will sing!

My 9 year old DS enjoyed Donald's Breakfast at AK, Garden Grill at Epcot, Sci-Fi Drive In and Pizza Planet Arcade at MGM.

We only ate Counter Service at MK.

His favorite meal of all, according to a recent conversation with friends planning a trip, was Benihana in one of the hotels near Downtown Disney. I added this meal becuase I had $40 in gift certificates from a rewards program. It was a big hit. Who Knew?!

We recently celebrated my sons 7th B-Day at WDW and here are a few things we did for him.

We purchased the Magic Memories hand held video game for him on our first day. What 9 year old boy dosen't love a video game. (this one is very cool - it "downloads" games based on 16 attractions at all 4 parks as you go by these attractions. there are discussions about them a few places on this board. i tried to search now, but the search is turned off right now other wise i would have linked them.)

If your nephew is into mexican food - we had dinner at the San Angel Inn in Mexico and informed the server (on the sly of course) about my son's b-day. They came out after dinner with a cake complete with a mickey "happy birthday" decoration and sang to him in spanish and english - they put a silly napkin hat on him and even globbed his nose with frosting!!

We lunched at the Whispering Canyon and the server made the entire restaurant sing to him.

You can have anything delivered to FW. they may not deliver to your campsite, but we have picked delivered gift packages up at the check-in area.

have a good time planning a special trip for your nephew! - lori

Another route to consider is a Birthday Fireworks Cruise. Check out the website www.wdwinfo.com . Under the left side headings "Special Attractions"-- Birthday Celebrations.
Yacht & Beach Birthday Fireworks Cruise- $150.00 + tax for small pontoon boat (8 people). The boat is decorated with streamers and balloons, you receive a personalized cake, soda. The cruise is approx 90 minutes and you cruise around Crescent Lake then to Epcot to see Illuminations. 407-934-3750 for ressies.
My brother did this last year for his wife's birthday as a surprise. She loved it and so did the kids!!

Enjoy!!!

Benihana is a Japanese chain of restaurants. It is a Hibachi style restaurant where the chef cooks your food on a grill that is built into the table. They put on quite a show with a lot of fancy chopping and knife twirling. It really is a lot of fun.

Make sure you let everyone you see there know it's his birthday. He will get special treatment wherever he goes. We did DS birthday at Disneyland one year and Disney World the next. At Disney World they sent balloons with an autographed picture of Tigger (we stayed at Wilderness Lodge) to our room. In the shops they had a special phone number to call with a birthday message from Goofy. They sang a silly birthday song to him at Mama Melrose which is where we had dinner that night. In Disneyland he got a special birthday button so everyone knew it was his birthday.

The first thing you want to do is stop at City Hall in the Magic Kingdom and get him a birthday button. It says "Today is my Birthday" and has a picture of the castle and 4 main characters. Everyone will treat him special. Wherever you go out to eat, let them know that it's his b'day. Also let them know if you call up to make priority seating, but be sure to tell them at the restaurant, just in case. Also let them know at your resort that it's his birthday.

If you really want to go all out, get in touch with Jane at http://www.giftsofalifetime.com . She can arrange just about anything. She has lots of good ideas and she'll work with you. It's not cheap, but worth every penny.

We took our DS last Feb. for his 8th B-day. We had breakfast at Cindy's(I know! My son thinks girls have the plague also!), but this place makes them feel very special. They have a B-day card, confetti on the table and gave him a cupcake with a candle in it. He got alot of special attention. He did get kissed though. We had dinner at Chef Mickey's. Mickey brought him a cake(no extra charge) and stood with him the entire time they had the scheduled celebration(music, napkin waving, etc...) Definitely get the birthday badge. They made him feel like he was king of the world all day at MK.

These sound so cool! Where did you buy these? How much? Sounds like something my kids would love? Do they work outside the parks? How do you "download" at different parks? Please tell me more!

Ludwig - sorry i am such a link ninny - i wan't able to figure out how to link you to the thread where myself and others dicussed these. I did copy and paste some details below. The thread was on the Parks attractions and Strategies board under a thread title of "light up pins"

The Magic Moments interactive videogame was a great buy!!!! It was quite crowded this past weekend and standing in line was a major drag for my 7 year old. The game was a birthday present and it was awesome. It comes with one game already loaded and 15 others "download" automaticly when you pass by the attractions that host the games. ( A few of the major attractions at each park - the activation signals are usually places somewhere near the fastpass distribution or entrances for each attraction.) Most CM's were clueless at to what the games where and where to get them activated.
they are self contained - you do not need to bring anything else along. You can buy them most anyplace that the magic moments pins are sold. (i personallly got mine at the Emporium at the front of Main Street, but saw them at most every Magic Moments Pin rack at the parks and resort gift shops.) They are shaped like a mickey head and are red and black with yellow buttons. The graphics are not gameboy quality, but the novelty of it and the excitement of getting a new game at the next ride kept my 7 year old very happy. The game has to be out in order to "download" the game when passing the sensor that sends the signal. (we has ours in our backpack when we entered splash mt and did not get the game.)

Ivanova got it right that they run @ 20 dollars and that You don't have to be hooked to anything, just get within close proximity of the sensors at the various attractions.

And, if you miss a chance to activate a game there is a code you can apparently punch into the game and it'll activate all 15 games. So no worry about missing games when it comes time to leave for home.

Even if you are playing another game and you pass a location where a new game will load, it will load the new game. (takes about 2 seconds!) Once you have the new game the others that you have "collected" stay on the game console. It has a menu where you can get a list of all possible games and where to pick them up and a list of the games you have collected so far. You can select any game you have collected at any time to play. They "stay" too. The only exception to this is that the games go away when the batteries die or you are replacing them. the game takes 3 AAA batteries and they run down quickly. the code Ivanova mentioned will activate all the games after replacing the batteries. (even the ones you did not collect while visiting WDW.)

You don't have to hook up to anything to download the game. (most of our games downloaded while we were getting our fastpasses. We just looked down and they were loaded. (the units have a little sensor between the mickey heads ears that picks up the signal that is transmitted from the unitl located at either the ride entrance or at the fastpass distribution center.) Like i mentioned earlier - most CM's had no clue what the game was, much less where or how to pick up the game for the ride they were working. AND the unit has to be out (not in a backpack) in order to recieve the signal.
