We too heard the bad reviews but decided to try it one day when the kids were starving one lunchtime. It was great.
Yes, it can be expensive, so be careful you don't overorder. Last time we were there for dinner with a family of 6, it was 150 bucks (includes tip and three Tsing Tao's for me). We should have ordered one less entree, and I ordered the appetizer sampler and ended up being the only one to eat from it.
If I hear a restaurant has issues, I tend to stay away as well. But the staff at Nine Dragons has always been very nice. The manager made a point of visiting our table and chatting last time we were there. She was an American, not a native Chinese, like most of the staff. We are picky about Chinese food, but always look forward to Nine Dragons.
