Nikon D50

the 18-200 VR lens will add about $900 to the camera.

IMHO, get the body only, get the 18-200 VR and be done with it. It's a great lens.

If Canon doesn't release a 18-125 IS or 18-200 IS by the end of thi summer, I will buy a D50 with 18-200 VR just for my walkaround lens.

I purchased the d50 in February along with the 50 1.8 lens (for a wedding later this year). I purchased the 18-200 lens separately, and it will be my primary lens. I had a Canon Elan for years with a 28-300 zoom that I kept on it at all times, thus I knew my preferences. So far, the 18-200 has been a great lens. Of course, my "walk around" camera has got to be quite heavy, considering I left a Kodak dx6490 (after Elan) to purchase this. I, admittedly, got spoiled to the size and weight of the smaller digital. My d50 with the lens, polarizing filter (heavy!!), and a nifty Hoodman lcd protector weighs every bit of 5 pounds I suspect. I plan to take it to WDW in two weeks. I'll most likely tote it in a small packback to avoid the larger camera bag in the parks. Of course, we've been a ton of times, so I won't be lugging the camera every day.

Finally went shopping and purchased the Nikon D50 with lens kit! I had doubts at the last minute as my BIL said it would be too compliocated for me to use :rotfl2:

I am very very pleased with it and had it up and running in no time. I have mainly used the auto mode but hope to do a bit more with it over the next few days!

I did buy the Nikon system bag - it's good as my Ibook fits in the back too however I don't like the fact that it says Nikon on the front thus advertising it's a camara - think I may have it refunded and buy a crumpler pizza bag.

Sweet!! welcome to the wonderful world of dSLR's!!!! Don't forget to post pictures!!

You will love the D50. It can be as easy as a point and shoot or as advanced as you want it to be. I wouldn't trade mine for anything.

Hi Everyone.

I am a new dSLR owner and have just bought the D50. Since we'll be cruising in a couple of weeks, I thought it would be great if we could transfer the photos onto the ipod instead of carrying the laptop along. Does anyone know whether or not the iPod Camera Connector works with it?

On the Apple site it states:

"The iPod Camera Connector works with digital cameras that support the following transfer protocols: Mass Storage, PTP, and Type 4 (sometimes referred to as “Normal”)."

I have no idea what this means.

(It does work with the XT.)

Thank you for your help.

Hi there! Your post caught my eye because I'm thinking about going out and upgrading my ipod today (From a mini to a video).

I don't have a DSLR nor do I currently have an iPod that can display photos, but I did some googling for you and saw on the dpreview.com review of your camera the tech specs for connectivity indicate that it's USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed) and Mass Storage/PTP (which is Peer-to-Peer BTW) Selectable.

So, in short, it looks like the iPod connector should definitely work with your new camera.

Have fun!

I love the swan pic too!

$799.

Includes the camera body.
2 lenses (Nikkor 28-80 and 70-300 - I think)
battery + charger
256mb card
Nikon camera bag

Rebel XT still $799 + $100 rebate

I tried the Nikon d50 from Costco today and found that there was virtually no shutter lag. The lenses focused fast enough for my need and I was able to take a pictures at maybe 3 frames per second.
The 2 major flaws I noticed are:
1. While I was changing lenses the "menu" button was acidentally pressed ( 2 occurences) and at the very top of the menu selection is: "FORMAT". it was a very horrifying experience because I already took a couple of nice shots and I could have accidenatally deleted them all.
2. No LCD backlighting..which I will need for low light situations.

Oh well. I will just have to return this one to Costco. I hope they will sell the NIkon D200 there soon.
