Nikolas & MAW-We're back from Mickey Mouse's House! Pre & Post trip reports

Guess what....both kids have the flu! Aaaaaaaahhh! :scared1:
My nephew tested positive this morning and we spent the day with them yesterday for his & my sis's birthdays. DD's test came back negative but they think it's just too soon. Thankfully both kids had a flu shot about 10 days ago so they are already developing antibodies and start Tamiflu now as well so they should be fine by the weekend.
I guess I'm glad it happened now rather than later but it just irritates me because we're 99% sure he got it from school. DD could have gotten it there too since there are 3 kids in her algebra class who are positive for H1N1 and 2 others in biology who are positive for influenza. The parents are sending them anyway because they can't/won't miss work and have no backup sitters. Grrrrrrr!!! :headache:
I can't stress it enough... IF YOUR CHILD IS SICK, PLEASE KEEP THEM OUT OF THE SCHOOLS AND AT HOME! I know that it's difficult but if you're kids are immunocompromised like many of ours are then you understand how dangerous it is for our kids and what you're sending to school could hospitalize or even kill our child.
Sorry, I just needed to vent...I'm getting off my soapbox now.

:eek::scared1: oh NO! I'm so sorry that they got that stinkin' stuff--hopefully the tamiflu will work well for both of them. I soooo agree with you about the "KEEP KIDS AT HOME WHO ARE SICK" no one seems to understand what it can and will do to our kids. GenevaClaire got H1N1 at school--she did fine with the tamiflu, but it's almost killed me (no tamiflu for mama). I'm still coughing and congested just like it was the 1st day of it, not to mention totally exhausted. That's why I'm not posting alot, just to worn out and exhausted.
I'll say a little prayer for all of you--take care and take care of those kiddo's, I'll be thinking about you!

Veronica

Oh no!!!

That totally stinks. But I am so glad you guys got Tamiflu!!

Please keep us posted!

So sorry you're having to deal with the flu, but glad it happened now and not a week from now when you're getting ready to leave! One of my major peeves is when parents send their kids to school sick, for exactly the reason you listed. Our kids don't need any help picking up bugs! At any rate, will keep you guys in my thoughts the rest of the week and cross my fingers for a quick recovery...

Well it's official...both of the kids and I all taking Tamiflu. Better now than when we're on our trip I guess. I feel crummy but it could be worse and it's early enough that hopefully I won't get very bad. Nikolas seems to be staying sick but not miserable, Mikayla is coughing her head off and having the whole chills/hot flashes thing but other than that she's doing OK too. Atleast we won't get this on the trip (if I say that enough it'll be true right? :goodvibes )

I am so sorry that you are all sick. I pray that you will all be well soon! :wizard:

OK, let me sing the praises of early diagnosis and Tamiflu. Everyone here is still sick but we are all feeling MUCH better and so far no one is super sick. :cloud9:
Our school system is sending out a permission form from the local health department so that any child from preschool to 5th grade can have the H1N1 vaccine. They haven't set the dates yet but the form must be turned in on Monday so I'm going to run over and sign one form Nikolas. Now watch the date be while we're gone...
Well either way we will all get it when we get back. I'd rather not do it just before we leave (besides there is a very good chance that's the strain we've got now). Off to sign more papers for the school...

HI!!! I found you! :yay:

Are you kidding me?? That makes sense ... send your sick kids to school so then EVERYONE gets the flu. Dum dums!!

Hope the kids feel better soon!! Off to read the rest of your PTR. :surfweb:

The jam-packed crammed week begins (3 days early  ).
Tomorrow morning we take our van in to have lockdowns installed for Boo's wheelchair, Saturday I've GOT to sew (diapers atleast-Boo wears cloth & has outgrown all but 3), Sunday our MAW volunteers come to bring documents-thank goodness we're all feeling better & not contaigous, Monday starts the laundry for packing, Tuesday-doctor appts & pick up Boo's new stander, then finish the rest of the week sewing and packing and printing out whatever isn't printed..... AAAAHHHHHH!!! I think I may just go crazy before we even leave. :lmao:

Just imagine, in a few short days you'll be on your way, it'll be awesome.

Can I just say it..... THE NEW LOCKDOWNS ARE AWESOME!!!!! Yep, I think I'm in love with these new things. They are so much easier to use. I won't get to use them until we get back because DS only has 1 appointment between now and then but we may have to take a mini-road trip so I can try them out with him in the chair. They really are sooo cool! :cool1:

Well our county officials (who denied it was even present in our town) have finally conceded. There is a huge front page write-up. If you have the flu...it's H1N1. There are no confirmed or suspected seasonal flu cases at this time. Ummm....duh! We all already knew that but I know they are just trying to keep panic from spreading. Really though, it wasn't too bad if you go to the doctor or health clinic and get the Tamiflu. There are rumors of a shortage but according to most of our local pharmacies we've got plenty right now and there is a higher production going on at the manufacturers so I wouldn't worry about a shortage until it looks like it's getting worse.
My best advice...lots of soap & water and hand sanitizer, cover your cough, get your vaccines if your don't have allergies, and most importantly...stay home if you don't feel well until you are fever free for 24 hours without any fever reducers.
They are offering the vaccine to elementary kids and I did sign Boo up for his but now I need to talk to the pediatrician to see what she thinks since he was not really sick but went straight on Tamiflu. He had no fevers, slight cough, runny nose, lethargy. He'll probably still get it to boost his immunity since he's so compromised. Ahhh the joys of parenting...

Theresa (aka disneygirl212) we got your pixie dust today! Thank you so very much....it will definitely make the plane trip much more enjoyable. This kids had a wonderful time looking thru everything and Mikayla has already read Dumbo to Nikolas. He LOVES books, they both do so they are perfect pixie dust. The cards will be a wonderful way for my dad and Mikayla to pass the time-they play gard games a LOT when she stays over.

Our MAW volunteers came today. They brought paperwork and lots of cool goodies! Thanks guys...you are wonderful!
I also told them about this board and how they must let other MAW families know how great this board is.

One question though, our expenses money came in a check. Should I bother with a prepaid Visa/MC or should I just put it in my checking and use my debit card?

We're all getting so excited here. Our itinerary says the limo will be here at 4:15 AM...:scared1: . It's all surreal right now but getting pretty intense since I need to figure out all the things that can be packed and all the things I can't forget....boy I hate packing-but I LOVE the time away.

Time for bed...the kids get to go back to school tomorrow so maybe I'll get something done after all.

Oh I'm sooooo excited for you guys! I know you're going bonkers, trying to remember everything and get it all done for the trip! But I'm so happy for you guys--I can't believe it's a week for you WOW. Seriously how does time fly so stinkin' fast????:confused3
I can't believe you have to leave at 4:15 am:scared1: but I know everyone will be so excited that they won't sleep a wink the night before anyway!
How's everyone feeling? Still got the coughing part? GenevaClaire came home with another respiratory virus this weekend:confused3 her school is obviously the most germy place in the universe, lol. But nothing serious so far, just had to up the inhalers for now and watch it closely. I haven't forgotten the digi scrappin links for you, my computer has crashed three times in the past month from some serious nasty and mean trojans (yep, 3x) and I finally managed to get most of the info back from the recovery drive so I'll send you a pm with the info if it will all fit in it, lol) if not I can email it to your regular email

Veronica and GenevaClaire

Do I have count the Sunday night/Monday as a sleep? We've got to be up and ready at 4:15 AM for the limo! :lmao:
You guys aren't far behind....boy did this time fly! I thought it seemed so far away when we scheduled it but it's here & I'm still printing things out. :lmao:
Oh well if we leave without a few things so what! I'll print them out when we get back if I need them for scrapping.

It's here, it's here!! Boo's stroller came in this afternoon! This means after I go get it tomorrow morning I can call our MAW coordinator and get a minivan instead of a lift van. I really just don't want to take the wheelchair 'cause Boo hates the new seat and I want him to be comfy for the week, plus this is so much easier to use or should be anyway. It looks and works just like the nice full sized cushy strollers for babies and toddlers-just bigger.
Time to put the kiddos to bed (again) and get another sleep out of the way. :goodvibes

Woo Hoo on the new w/c stroller!

Make sure you go by guest services in Disney and get a tag that allows you to use the stroller as a wheelchair - especially if it looks more like a stroller. :thumbsup2 I am glad it came in!! :)
