When planning our trip, we originally thought we may have 4 days for both parks and were not going to get a hopper. Now we may only have 2.5-3.

My question is how are the night time shows / entertainment and what are the best shows to catch?

If you're a WDW veteran, Fantasmic is better at DL but you already know whether you like it at WDW. The dining packages for it really give you an advantage -- if I could only pick one packagae this would be it. They let you stay in the Fantasmic viewing area to see the firework right after -- they will be off center but they do the projections on the water screens and you will never make it into the Hub viewing area in the 5 minutes in between with the crowds. I haven't seen the new Mickey fireworks to judge.

World of Color is probably the most unique from WDW. I like it a lot.

If Paint the Night parade comes back (unknown) I really liked it. Kind of a a modern Spectromagic/Electrical Parade.

Other daytime entertainment worth considering: Soundsational parade, Mickey and the Magical Map, Frozen musical in DCA. Both parks have great little shows that you just happen upon without a plan and enjoy for a few minutes, like the Dixieland bands, the newsboys in DCA, etc.

For night time I would say focus on World of Color as @PHXscuba says - it is unique to DLR. But only if you are willing to commit the time to get there early. See "World of Color Superthread" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=37986447

If Paint the Night (PTN) comes back that is the best Disney parade ever. Comparing it to Spectro/EP is valid but misleading because it is so much better.

ITA Fantasmic is better at DL but you only have so many nights. I would put that down the list because WDW does have it. Lots of folks like F! at DLR more than WOC (not me!) so it is a viable option for you.

Throwing my hat in the ring to recommend World of Color and (if it's happening) Paint the Night. Both are great and special.

World of Color Dessert Party is awesome if you have it in your budget to do it as its the only option with and actual seat to relax and watch the show. Radiator racers at night is really cool also!

I’m glad to know this option is out there. We are huge fans of the dessert party at Magic Kingdom so will probably splurge for that.

I was on the DL website looking for some other entertainment and Paint the Night isn't even listed on the "no showtimes available" or "parades returning later" like the holiday parades, etc. (and they even list RDCT) That bodes badly for PTN's return. A shame as it was my favorite of the 60th anniversary nighttime entertainment.
