Cruised Disney Magic Jan 15-22nd. Missed Cayman Islands due to rough seas. Missed Castaway Cay again due to rough seas. Pools closed due to rough seas. Other cruise ships with same itineraries diverted to other ports so that their passengers could enjoy themselves, but not our ship. Everyone on board was sick with stomach virus. Our complaints were ignored. Have now found out that the ship was carrying the Norwalk Virus which explains everyone sick. Not so sure about Disney. :rotfl2:

We also were on the 1/15 Western Cruise. We had fun. Disney can't control the weather. When life gives you lemons you have to make lemonade. My husband had such a great time, that we have already booked again on the Magic for August 2006. And he is not a Disney fan.
PS, we didn't have a stomach virus, nor did any of the 20 people we were traveling with.

Remind me not to cruise ni the winter. Cold water = rough seas = :crazy2: sorry you had a bad time.

Rebecca,
We too were on that cruise. How did you find out there was Norwalk on board? I ask because my son was very ill and we were in and out of the Health Center. No-one once mentioned this to us and I never noticed anyone else in there sick. I am surprised the seas did not bother me. I am very prone to motion sickness and we were in a way forward cabin but I never got seasick or even close, did lots of people?? I'm sorry you had a bad time, we actually had a good time despite the missed ports and stomach virus that hit our son. We plan to return next year hoping we'll get to finally see Grand Cayman & Castaway Cay!!

Sorry to hear that your trip was disappointing. That can be so frustrating when your expectations of all a vacation can be are not met. And I know cruising isn't cheap! Hopefully the next cruise you take works out much more magically. :wizard:

Sorry you were dissapointed. I sailed during one of the MANY hurricanes that hit Florida and was also dissapointed, but due to the weather and the changes it caused for our four night. I am going to give DCL another try soon, I really, really want to go to the private island. Thanks for posting.

On CNN - Disney Magic was put in shipyard this week for deep sanitization - over 200 sick passengers and 30 sick crew members - discovered Norwalk Virus on board

Yes - this week - ship sailed on 1/22 as expected however, they turned it around and have cancelled all future cruises until sanitized

I found this link on CNN CNN Cruise Ship Link

But they spoke about a HAL ship and Royal Caribbean, no mention made of DCL.

Is there a different link that I missed?

Sorry you had such a terrible time.

Rebecca,

I think you should check your facts...I sailed on the 1/22 cruise. We did not turn back and the ship was refueling this morning for its next cruise. We had a wonderful cruise. This was our second Disney cruise. There were some changes to excursion at St. Thomas due to high seas and they cancelled a few activities at Castaway Cay due to weather. Disney cannot control the weather. They have always given us top-knotch service. We will be sailing with them for the third time in May 2006.

One reason cruise lines can take ships to other ports more easily is because they have other ships, doing other itineraries, that already go to those ports so they already have all the paperwork, payments and permissions for the cruise line to go there. Disney has 2 ships, doing limited itineraries, so it would require an amazing amount of paperwork to take a ship to unscheduled ports when not an emergency.

(ETA: Lots of paperwork generally means lots of time as well).

We were on the Magic for the Jan 22 cruise and it was wonderful. Great weather and no GI. There was a ship that returned earlier that week because of GI probs (I believe it was Royal Caribbean). But, no one in our travelling party heard of any major illness. I will say that it seemed like every kid had a cough by the end of the cruise. Good luck to everyone on the upcoming cruises.

I feel bad for you. After all, Disney Cruises are expensive. For the amount of money you pay to sail on this cruise line, I think they should divert to other ports in situations like this. Many people can't afford to sail every year, so this is a big disappointment for them. I did sail on another cruise line in Xmas of 2003 and got lucky with the weather.

Just got back from the Jan 22 Magic. No problems there. We did not turn back. Heard a report while in port that another ship had several hundred sick on board. Our CM's were really encouraging handwashing.

To the best of my knowledge, and I've researched it thoroughly, DCL was not a Norwalk ship. I've been reading live reports from 1/22-1/29 cruise on a daily basis. Therefore, the Magic could not be in deep sanitation if it set sail a few hours after it returned on the 22nd. Seas were very rough on our 1/8 Eastern Caribbean cruise and excursions were cancelled. My husband and I were ill the first two days. However, we had the vacation of a lifetime. Disney service was wonderful. We'll be back as soon as the piggy bank is full.

For personal reasons I WILL NEVER SAIL ON ANOTHER DISNEY CRUISE. Why My husband almost died. I AM NOT ABOUT TO MAKE THIS UP.
There medical is the worse. They were suppose to medivac him out but unfortunately could not find a helicopter.
So he sat with a concussion and blood preasure beyond the charts for two days in his room.
All I can say they could not wait to get him off the ship.
NEVER AGAIN

We were on the 1/15 Magic also, and while we very much shared everyone's disappointment at missing GC and CC, we'd hardly call it a "nightmare" cruise. Sure the weather wasn't the best, but that's nothing Disney can do anything about.

As for the Norwalk virus, where are you getting this information? I see nothing on CNN pertinent to the Disney Magic and I suspect we would see a zillion postings on the main DCL discussion board here if the ship had been "turned around" and all future cruises canceled.

I am sorry that you didn't enjoy the cruise and for all the others who have had bad experiences with DCL!

This looks suspiciously like a troll. Three posts, all on this thread. Unverifiable information designed to get people upset or to trash DCL. If it is not, I sincerely apologize to the OP. But a lot of this sounds fishy (beyond the ports being missed and rough seas on that cruise). JMHO.

Please expand on this. What were your issues with the on-ship medical? Was it their inability to get your husband evacuated, or where there other issues?
