Niece wants a North Face jacket; any deals?

If you have a Hibbetts Sports around you I just received a $25 off of $75 purchase that they will let you use. It states can't be used on Northface, etc....but they have always let me use it for Northface. The manager said they didn't care they just want business. This has been at 2 separate store locations :).

I don't have one convenient to where I am but my sister does so I will ask if they got that coupon.

I am thinking a PP got it right that it's a Denali she's wanting, but I'm not sure. She wants 'furry' but not all one color...I'm not sure if the Denali's are 'furry' or not. She said an AUPY when she looked at their site but she didn't realize it's not 'furry' and I think she went mostly by price.

I hate that clothes are such status symbols at her age. Jr.high will always be jr.high I guess.

FALLSAVE20 $20 off $100....find a filler and no tax free ship.

I just ordered the OSO Hoodie...sooo soft and cuddly. My oldest got it last Xmas. She loves it and has worn it constantly...this year DD #2 wants one....got it for just over $80 total [including some cheap gloves for DS].

The Denalis are there too but the sale price of those on other sites is about $80 [google search]. If only they had the Boys Denali hoodie for my DS.

Now if I buy a North Face jacket from someone located in China I might consider it a likely fake... but if I see a seller in the US that has no bad feedback I'll take the chance. And if the item happens to be a knock-off that is so good that I can't tell the difference well I've saved money so I wont care. I've traveled enough in foreign countries where counterfeits are common to know that their are counterfeits of nearly anything you could imagine. But I also know that on something silly like a fleece jacket that I'm not going to be depending on for my life... well I could care less if its fake or not. Most of the so called counterfeit clothes you find are made in the same factories as the real deal, made by the same workers and are only considered counterfeit because they were slipped out the back door to a different supply channel that bypasses the company that licensed the clothes... so in a way yes it would be counterfeit, but it would also be impossible for you or anyone else to tell the difference.... Now when it comes to things like a Rolex, well that is a different matter... those counterfeits are not made in the same factories and are clearly different than the real thing.... Your entire post causes me to imagine you working for Macy's trying to scare people away from good deals so they can be over charged by a big department store.

Nope...I'm a stay at home mom and have never once worked in a department store. Nice assumption though. I have a family member that works in the ebay industry and this is a constant issue that they face. Like you stated, the knockoffs are so good that most people don't realize they're buying a fake...thus they leave positive feedback. And I think paying close to retail price for a knockoff is just ridiculous! If you're fine with paying that for a knockoff then that's your call. I just wanted to give the OP a heads up that if she truly wanting a REAL North Face she might want to steer clear of ebay. The ones I got from 6pm.com are indeed real and less than the price of the ones off ebay.

First off, how about this. If you are more concerned with getting a good deal than in supporting the designer/manufacturer and supply chain of the product that you are buying, then I suggest that you buy a non-brand name product to begin with.

When people buy knock off anything then their only objective (imo) is to "appear" to have the "IT" item. Whether it be an Hermes scarf, a LV handbag, a Prada wallet, etc. There is no other reason to buy that knock off item. If all they wanted was a great deal then they could simply go to Walmart and buy an inexpensive (fill in the blank) item. With some leeway for quality of materials, craftsmanship, and style there is NOTHING that makes a Burberry trench coat better at its "primary function" (being a coat) than a trench coat sold at Sears for example. Its number one selling feature is the name and social status attached to that name.

I personally think that it is sad and pathetic for someone to want to get whatever jollies they get from "showing off" a brand name if they really can't afford it or have no interest in supporting the designer/manufacturer due to the mark up.

Also, I would like to see some evidence that suggests that most designer knock offs are made by the same facility that makes the brand name item and they are just whisked out the back door?

In actuality there is no "so called" or "in a way" about it. Counterfeiting is counterfeiting. You are stealing and are participating in organized crime. The people manufacturing and peddling these knock offs are violating copyright and trade marking laws. Then inevitably the designer goods will increase in cost (for the law abiding people who would buy them through the proper channel) due to the cost of litigation involved in protecting the designer's ideas.

Furthermore, for someone to have claims of extensive foreign travel, I think your cavalier attitude about this is surprising. MANY countries have very strict laws regarding crossing international borders with counterfeit items (involving stiff penalties for violators). That isn't just aimed at traffickers, they can and will prosecute average every day people who bought a $5 pair of "Nike" sneakers at a street stall and tried to cross customs with it. In fact, after 5 years of negotiations, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement was finally signed (by some nations including the US) earlier this very month.

Edited to note: I was thinking it was still Oct, not Nov. so sorry, the treaty was actually signed in Oct.

While this really doesn't have anything to do with my niece's jacket anymore, if anyone cares I won't be buying off ebay because their fees are ridiculous, it's a ripoff that they also own paypal and get a fee from that too, and I've had poor experiences with both buyers and sellers. So no need to worry about me buying a counterfeit off ebay.

I did not read all the posts, but Siera Trading Post always has good deals on columbia and north face jackets

Cabelas has some different styles in the "bargain cave" on their website. There are some nice deals!

ETA Denali was one of the styles on sale (certain colors)

depending on what color you want your can get them for $100 on sunnysports.com
I bought mine off there about 2-3 years ago and at the time I found a coupon code also so mine was about 80-90 dollars with free shipping. but it was black because Im a guy and dont care what color it is.

Thanks everyone! We're kind of at a standstill right now because she wanted what her tiny friend has- an Oso in two colors. Well, she needs adult sizing and as nearly as I can tell adult only comes in one color. So she's trying to decide what she wants to do instead.

If you can, go to a store and try on the kids size vs the adult size. When I bought my son's jacket, the boys XL was larger than the smallest men's size. Maybe the men's size arm length was a little longer. I would see if you can try one on for the proper size. Also, these coats are made to last so if you go a little bigger, that only means that you will have plenty of time to get to wear it. Some things are worth the price and these jackets DEFINITELY are.(but shopping for a good deal is always smart) My boys wear them constantly and I am never sorry I spent the money on them. They are on their second set due to growing. I have then passed the jackets along to a friend and the jackets are still going strong after 4 almost 5 winters. I bought ours from backcountry.com after checking out sizes at Dick's. Best of Luck shopping. Also, my boys wanted ONLY north face even if that meant they had to give up another gift at Christmas. It is a status thing, but we were all kids once and remember what that is like. Best of Luck shopping.

I just bought two adult Denali jackets at backcountry.com for ~$200. Last season's colors were on sale; I bought a men's in black and a women's in loganberry red. Free shipping, too!

I bought DD one from sunnysports.com last year for $60. Google to see if you can find a coupon code too.

I think I bought mine at travelcountry.com a few years ago. I fit in a girls XL. Girls jackets are cheaper than womens jackets if she will fit in a girls.

Does anyone know....the jacket she likes belongs to a friend. The friend's mom said she had to specify 'long' when she ordered it for the fleece. Does that make sense to anyone? I think it is a Denali from the pic they sent.
