Nicole & Evan's Vintage DFTW TR 12/29/2009: SBP & Ariel's *Update 8/29*

Oh My Goodness!! Your pictures are amazing!! I hope mine turn out that wonderful. Your theme was beautifully executed. I'm doing a 40's theme ceremony at SBP and hope it turns out as elegant as yours.

So your DH is deployed? What boat/ship is he on? I went to the same school, as an enlisted mechanic. That's where I met my DF (who was also enslisted, but is now an officer on the Columbus out of Pearl Harbor). Welcome to the Navy family! PM me if you ever need to chat.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure you could do nothing to SBP and it would still be gorgeous!

Yep, he's on the Ike currently. Thanks for the welcome!

All I have to say is, WOW!!! Gorgeous!!
I used Patricia also and just loved her! She also made me feel relaxed and she did such a perfect job with my hair and make up! We also used Kathryn Flocken and felt the same about her. One of the highlights of the event! Can't wait to hear and see more of your day.:thumbsup2

Alright! I'm back! Or rather, my laptop is (it only took a month to fix).
Around this point things were getting hectic. The bridesmaids weren't back yet, no one in our room had eaten lunch, I was attempting to steal my gown back from the photographers, the boys kept calling us to see if we were done yet, and I was waiting for Ken to show up and hopefully take over the insanity. Fortunately, he did! He went with Nathan down to find the boys and start taking pictures of them. The florists then showed up and I finally got dressed. Seeing how they had to pin through leather to get those flowers to stay on, it's amazing no one stabbed themselves.

But the muffs turned out lovely!

Of course, there wasn't any pomp to getting dressed, my mother had gone down to get sandwiches, so Sarah helped hook me in! A few extra details and my mother got back. Thank goodness, because I was tired of answering the door (half the time it was Evan and he'd never warn me, so I took to hiding behind it when opening!). And I was starving.

I love this shot just because you can see a glimpse of Nathan in the background, trying to hide behind the door:

Shortly after, the first bridesmaid returned. I actually left before Nicki got back (that's how long her hair took!), but I do have an ever so lovely shot of Erin making a sandwich she'll forgive me for....

A few last fun shots for the photographers and I headed downstairs.

Now, in the mean time the guys had all sorts of fun. When Nathan had come back up to the room he was all excited and started showing Sarah pictures he had taken (I wasn't allowed to see them). Something about monkeys. At the beginning you can tell that they're all big goofballs that don't usually like the camera.
0069_0131x.jpg

Especially Evan who is obviously trying hard not to smile like a 3rd grade school photo or bust out laughing.... it's hard to tell which.
0074_0153x.jpg

But, then they loosen up and "act natural". The LAST thing I would ever prompt them to do.

The requisite "mobster" shot:

And here is where I come in. We had originally planned a different location to meet, but the light was so lovely outside. Even if it was cold.

0139_0371.jpg

0142_0379x.jpg

And here is the look I get from all of my sewing projects: confusion.
0146_0393x.jpg

I had to double check to make sure he was dressed correctly. Found a pocket welt I forgot to tack...oops. And he didn't have his jacket buttoned. Ahem.
0160_0433.jpg

And still confused....

A few more random shots and we move on to the staged ones:

I still wish I had found a better fabric for that coat. Too many wrinkles (but we'll blame that in part on his not buttoning it).
By this point I began to realize just how much help we would have during the day. Ken had gone over to SBP to get things started up, but we still had two people with headsets making sure everything was running smoothly with us. Somehow they knew to bring a wheelchair for Evan's dad (I don't remember asking for one, but they knew he couldn't walk well). So, they were making sure where it needed to be, when they would get there, etc. I was rather impressed!
Next we get the fun photo shoot and every one shows up! Finally!

Can't wait to read more. It was freezing on the 28th I remember that well.

I saw your pictures posted on another post and had to check out your TR. Your pictures are beautiful, I love all the details and the vintage style.

I'm so glad I stumbled on your TR. We actually talked about your wedding at my PS (my planner is Ken) while drooling over photos of your cake. Everything looks incredible!

Haha! I'm pretty sure Ken is going to try to sell that cake to every person now! He seemed almost as excited about it as I was!

At this point we started doing "posed" pictures of the two of us. It all felt really easy and natural though.
0183_0480x.jpg

Fun picture for me to point out buttons. I have more than just a slight obsession with them. Evan's coat has horn buttons (I almost did glass, but thought that might be a bit much). Mine are "death head" buttons. Since this isn't an 18th century site, I'll explain that I covered wooden buttons with thread that creates a particular pattern akin to the pirate cross bones.

They took a few individuals of me for the gown and we decided to see what happened to the huge skirt when I spin. Totally going for little girl fantasies right here:

Have to have the picture of the picture being taken:
0219_0572.jpg

And the goal of the day seemed to be making me laugh. Which happened a lot.
0231_0597x.jpg

We then ran through our first dance, which was definitely not choreographed to go with this gown. Or a top hat. But it was fun and made for some great pictures!

One of the most awesome things about the location we shot in was the light. It was a small portico just between the Beach Club and the Villas. So much fun to play with.

I love lattices.

Some more session shots before we got ready to move on to the ceremony.
The requisite hand shot from the Roots (love it!):
0331_0803x.jpg

I realized after that this shot actually forms a heart. It's a really nice location, but I could imagine it being far busier during warmer months.

One more classic lattice shot:

The bouquet I had was inspired by a 1930s image my planner had found and certainly looked the part:

Bring in the bridesmaids! We were oh so glad that we choose to build coats and caplets. It was very chilly that day and they were the perfect weight.
0391_0960x.jpg

I have no clue what we're trying to do here except look funny
0394_0970x.jpg

The whole crew. And no, the two groomsmen are not related. They hadn't even met until the wedding! Nic (on the left) was Evan's college roommate and Mike (on the right) is in the Navy and Erin's (right again) husband. If that's not confusing think about the fact that we have me, Nicole, my bridesmaid Nicki (but technically Nicole), and groomsman Nic.
0408_1009x.jpg

The groomsmen's suits came from Carolyn Allens. Their top hats were their "gift" and boy were they excited about them. The bridesmaids designed their own gowns and the coats/muffs were their gifts.

It was at this point we all headed to the lobby to go our separate ways. I stayed there to wait for the Rolls to be ready. Of course, I had one of the DFTW people with me so I was never out of the loop. I even answered a few questions for Reverend Knox that way! The bridal party and photographers walked over to SBP to meet with Ken and get ready. Once I walked out to the car someone stayed in the lobby to meet with Evan's family and escort them to SBP.
I have to admit, of the entire day I felt most like a princess when I was sitting in the car waiting. The weather had warmed enough for people to be out and everyone that passed by waved and offered congratulations. Sitting on the sidewalk right behind the Beach Club was apparently a high traffic area! We even had to shoo away the growing group of men oogling the car to get going.

A few good pictures pre-guests as the photographers arrived at SBP. The chairs are the standard ones now. The urns with palm leaves and peacock feathers are the only decoration we had. They moved them to the reception after.
0438_1096.jpg

Such a beautiful view from there. It may have been chilly, but the sky was clear and the day so bright.
0448_1115.jpg

I had custom petal cones made. I used the logo from our invitations (the lighthouse at the Yacht Club).
0451_1123x.jpg

Our Jazz Trio. I honestly don't remember anything about them. I obviously didn't get to hang around before the ceremony and was a bit distracted once I got there. I payed attention to them at the reception and they sounded great there. I do faintly remember hearing When You Wish Upon a Star, but until I got the pictures I didn't even remember where they were at SBP!
0455_1129.jpg

Our wedding planner, Ken Weaver, being all sorts of organized. Probably calling me with questions in this picture...
0466_1145.jpg

Nicki taking a few moments to go over their speech for later (aka making trouble):
0468_1148.jpg

And Nathan being....Nathan?
0474_1162.jpg

My family arriving and milling about.
0482_1177.jpg

All the guests have arrived so the bridal party line up to get ready!
0506_1224x.jpg

I was secretly sneaking up behind them in the car by this point and could see most of what was going on. Not much time left until the ceremony begins!
