Nicknames OK on Mouse Ears?

Now, I have a unique name, but I was PAYING extra. She didn't believe me when I told her my name is Silence (yes, this is my given name).

I was told that you could buy a hat anywhere in the park and as long as you had the receipt you could take it into any of the stores that did the embroidery and have it done for free.

All ear hats can be embroidered for free with a receipt, but the shop lets you embroider stuff like caps, and purses, jackets or just your regular ear hats with special fonts or colors.

All I know is Mad Hatters....where is the special shop?

I'm really blanking on the name... The shop is tucked away in a corner though and you wouldn't know they did embroidering unless you walked smack into it. It's gonna so bother me...

One thing we learned that I thought was pretty cool is if you purchase the Pirate hat they'll embroider "Captain ______ (your name)" or "Pirate______(your name)"

I can't imagine a child's nickname would be hard to have embroidered unless it is an obvious nickname or something really bizarre---I don't think anyone would question "Nicki"!!!

Yes.. .DisDancerina is my dog's name. I can lie pretty well... She's actually Danielle's Lady Cassie Nova! (Cassie)

I could say Dis for Disney, And Dancer for My love of dance when I got her and ina from Ballerina! That would work, right? Or I could give them a heartfelt story of that's what my dog's name is... My invisible dog, that is... I got it from the Main Street Magic Shop!

Everytime I have dealt with Disney Ears NO they will not do nicknames at least for adults. My suggestion especially for kids is act like its your real name. How are they going to tell? I figure if they ask your kid haven't they obviously been called their nickname before? They should answer, but I doubt they will make a stink for a kid.

Why we know that while it can be tough, it also can be done is that my friend does Rocky Horror and she so wanted a Columbia Mickey Ear Hat for her costume. It took some work but she did get it!

I work Renaissance Faires and one of my nicknames is Verucca from Willy Wonka (I wanted a Nickname NOW! and from there I was Verucca), I actually did get some one the first time to put this on a pirate hat!

So yes and no do they do nicknames, at least not for adults. BTW pay cash for a nicknamed hat just in case haha!

BTW Silence you have an awesome name!!! I wish mine wasn't so boring.

The pirate/captain is standard with the pirate hat. But they won't add it to a non pirate hat.

I really think it depends on the CM and their mood.

So, while I have had problems with my GIVEN name, we did once buy a Captn Hook hat for DH's friend that read "Captain Browneye" (yeah, seriuosly) It was hit and miss when I wanted my own name, sometimes they don't even blink and do it for me, sometimes they want ID. go figure.


I think they don't want nick names that aren't formed as part of names. Meaning, Nikki or Johnny or Andy should be just fine, but made up nick names they may frown upon.

Ears can be personalized only with proper names, up to 10 characters. No unusual nicknames, slang terms, profanity or epithets may be personalized. (Jim is a usual nickname for James, "Dawg" is not). Most titles are acceptable, like Mr. Smith, Dr. Jones, or Miss Davis. Names with initials are OK, for example "J.D.", but last initials can not be embroidered with a name, like "Karen R." We can not embroider numbers, punctuation marks other than periods, company names, or slogans.

Maybe because we wanted a "Disney" name it was ok, but I had Grumpy embroidered on my husbands 'ears' and they didn't even blink when I asked. No problem whatsoever!

We had no idea that there were 'rules' about what can be put on and what is not allowed. I might not have even asked if I had known. Glad I didnt know, because he really is 'grumpy' The ears are perfect!

I googled something like "ear embroidery disney" and ended up on the snopes message board, where someone had linked the mouseshoppe rules. Crazy!

Good thing I got out of it was remembering about mouseshoppe, and I sent off an email to them asking if they can get me a newly released pin that delivEARS can't get for me yet.

I have an East Indian gal that works for me. She asked me to pick her up Mouse Ears during a trip that I had taken to WDW.

I pick out a hat and took it to a counter to ask for it to be personalized. I was asked the name that I wanted and I responded "Poorni". Her given name is Poornima (means New Moon (or Full Moon)) in Hindi. The name she goes by in the office is Poorni. They told me no way. It contained something that sounded like Porn. I asked if they would do her full name and was again told no. So, out I went with an unpersonalized set of ears.

I got back to the office and told her what had happened and she had a good chuckle.

Awww you jogged my mind!! I was going to get Tink Mouse Ears and have me DIS
handle put on them tink2dw. I thought maybe I'd run into some fellow DIS'er.

At first this new CM was going to do it but her trainer whispered to her and then said no numbers, so I said Tink would do. Then the manager Cm ask my husband, as I looking at other stuff in the store, if that was my name. Of course He said No, it is part of her email address[wrong!!] He called me over, but by that time I had found a canvas brimmed Tinker Bell Hat I like much better than the tink ears. So I just forgot about it! Till this thread!!

the bottom line is there is an official policy and there is whatever the CM you're with is willing to do for you.

we're not talking Nicki vs. Nicole. or Brad vs Bradley in my case. we're talking about people who go most of their lives by something like Bones or Cash or Buster or Bubba or something to that effect. but it all depends on the individual CM (who sometimes is willing to bend the rules for any policy).

MouseShoppe.com is a personal shopping service. she's laying down the groundwork so she doesn't have to come back and say she couldn't get a certain name done. her policy is probably a healthy combination of what she's been told by the parks and what she gathers on her own website (mouseplanet.com).

i don't really know if WDW has the same sort of policy but I was overwhelmed to say the least when I had no issues getting a CM at DHS to write Stitch's name on the ears from Build-A-Bear, although she did check with her manager first.

During the 50th we had mom and dad put on our hats and then the kids names on theirs and then I think my mom had grandma put on hers. So I don't see why if they do that they wouldn't put nick names.
