Nick Cannon - Whiteface

No it isn't and he isn't racist for three reasons.

1.His wife and children are white.
2.He's a comedian.
3.People do blackface all the time.

You guys need to lighten up. Now you know how I feel when that white recruiter roller her eyes and didn't even shake my hand and told me I didn't get the job three hours after when I went when I had my interview not that long ago at disneyland. all because I was black.

you guys started this racism crap and when we try to have our comedic play at it, you guys get butthurt and call him racist.

How do you know you didn't get the job because you are black? Maybe you didn't interview well. Maybe they already decided who they were going to hire, but they still had to do interviews (this happens a lot).

This reminds me of a situation at work. A black girl comes in complaining that she got a ticket because she was black. She told us what happen and went off about how cops hate black people. A few minutes later, a white girl in the office comes in with a ticket as well for the same reason the black girl got a ticket. Just maybe it has nothing to do with skin color.

The thing that gets me is that, if our goal is equality, it would be perfectly fine for a white girl to dress as a black character for Halloween or for a black comedian to play a white character. It wouldn't matter, because people wouldn't be concentrating on race. Racism isn't going to go away until we let it.

Interesting point of view.

All because I was black. Couldn't have been anything else right?

Mariah Carey isn't white.

Double standard.

If a white person said the things he said applied to a race other than his/her own even without face paint, he/she would be villifed.

1. His wife is biracial, and so are his children.

I don't find it racist or offensive, but certainly not because of any of the reasons you cite. Your last line is kind of troubling though. It insinuates an "us vs them" situation and also suggests that it's okay to offend one race since that race previously offended yours. I was never taught to believe that 2 wrongs make a right.

And while I do not find Nick Cannon even remotely offensive, racism is, always has been, and always will be a 2-way street. And the existence of it on one side is never justification for its existence on the other.

Whatever racism you've experienced, real or imagined, I feel bad for you. But, if you're going to use that as justification to perpetrate racism yourself, any such sympathy I have goes right out the window.

:rolleyes2
1. Mariah Carey is not white

2. He's a comedian - I don't like him but I guess you could all him one

3. All the time??? Really? Any recent examples?

As for the rest, maybe you were not qualified? Do you speak the way you write?

Could be the big chip on your shoulder and the attitude that everyone owes you something is why Im guessing you didnt get the job, not because youre black.

Totally agree with you.

Wrong, Mariah Carey is bi-racial, and so are their kids
2.He's a comedian.
Not so sure about this. He's not funny.
3.People do blackface all the time.
In recent years, I can think of a few instances of people wearing blackface and nearly ending their careers. Nick Cannon's career (?) will not end because of this stunt because blacks do not face the same backlash as whites.

Based on what you've written, I'd say Disney didn't hire you for reasons other than your skin color. Perhaps that massive chip on your shoulder prevented you from presenting yourself in an intelligent, pleasant manner.

He IS a racist.

For what it's worth, NO ONE should be poking fun at any race these days. Black or white. It's just an incredibly stupid thing to do in these very overly-sensitive days that we live in.

I really enjoyed this video about "reverse racism."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynONIEQtH1k

He is a comedian? I didn't find him funny at all.

Any one can be a racist. I see it on my street all the time. My neighbor will not hire white people because he thinks they are complete idiots and lack the mental ability to do anything. He feels black people are stronger, smarter and do not deserve to be around the low lives of white people. My black neighbor is a racist.

I didn’t really want to start another controversial thread. But figured this would be a good thread to piggyback off of.

So he was called out for racist remarks. He doubled down. And then he receives support from the black community. Why is everything so complicated?

Really, I found this thread more interesting than Nick Cannon’s recent controversy, though. The post on the first page attacked for being superior sounds more in-line with what’s considered acceptable today.

What's complicated about it? Racism involves POWER. Nick said something that has cost him his job AND possibly the rights to a show that he created.

Saying blacks were the original Hebrews isn't racist. His comment about savages isn't racist either. The acts committed during the period of colonialism were salvage.

His comment was anti Semitic, but not racist.

Obviously an old thread but whether it was racist or anti-Semitic it was still like WTH moment. I mean I get clarifying that it was anti-Semitic vs racism for the purposes of clarity but his comments were still disgusting IMO either way and no amount of "well it was actually this not that" is going to make that be any better.

What's disgusting about saying that a group of people acted like savages?

Raping women and children is a savage act.
Branding people is a savage act.
Feeding babies to gators is savage.
Raping men is savage.
Forcing men, women and children to watch while a man is raped is savage.
Cutting off male and female genitals to keep as souvenirs from the lynching you attended is savage.
Taking your family to watch a lynching after attending church on Sunday is savage.

Do you not know what he said?

You really think I'm talking about his comment discussing savages (I assure you that's not what I'm referring to)? Wow...
