So, long story somewhat short, we were booked on the 3 o'clock non stop on Delta from BOS to MCO in February. Then, the prices dropped to $79 each way. So, for the difference between the change fee, and the price drop, it was only $30 to change each ticket, so I booked us on the noon flight. I did this last Thursday.
Then, being the semi-obsessed, DIS traveller, I checked our itinerary yesterday, to find out that the noon flight has been CANCELLED. WHAT? So I called the Skymiles 1-800 number to find out what our options were. This is where things start to go South, very quickly.
The phone rep isn't interested in talking to me about getting a refund for the money I paid to change flights that end up getting cancelled, and his best advice to me is to WAIT until January, and maybe the flight will be put back up. When I try to explain that this is one of the busiest travel weeks out of the Northeast, and that waiting until January could result in us not having a flight at all, he just did not get it. At this point, I cut my losses, thank him for his time, and hang up.
I refresh my screen, and he has changed us back to the 3 o'clock flight, but with NO refund. I call the local Atlanta number for Delta CS (not sure if that still gets me India, or if I was really speaking to someone in Atlanta or not, but let me tell you, the second rep was DELIGHTFUL). She listened to my whole story, asked if she could put me on hold to speak to a supervisor, and kept coming back to let me know she had not forgotten.
End result, we're back on the 3pm flight, got the seats we wanted, AND got the refund for the flight change that accomplished NOTHING.
Now, I will be bummed if they do bring back the noon flight, because I'm sure the price won't be as low, but we'll see what happens.
Hmmm--guess this wasn't so short, huh?
Word to the wise--don't expect notification on flight changes this far out, but be proactive, and check your itinerary every week or so, to monitor changes.
