Nice chat with Captain Henry

Tonnage does not necessarily mean *bigger* - it could mean more features adding more weight. They look just a tiny bit larger...but still nowhere near the Behemoths of the Seas other lines are determined to keep putting out there.

This is GRT (Gross Register Tonnage), which has nothing to do with weight, but instead is a measurement of volume. So yes, more GRT equals larger ship.

This is me, but from talking to Capt henry back in 2015 on a 4 day double dip, he was saying that the Dream class ship design was dictated by the way the contract was worded. DCL said we want a ship of so many tons, so big by so wide with so many rooms. So to meet the tonnage, this was the design they came up with. To me, the way that the new ships are worded and tonnage wise, sounds like the ships dimensions will be the same as the Dream class, but with the extra tonnage will have the verandah cabins on the edge of the ship hull like the Magic class. I think they'll have the same dimensions of the Dream class, but the classic look of the Magic.

I think that the new ships will be very similar in size to the Dream Class ships and the differences (on the exterior) will not be very noticeable. For one, I am highly anticipating the new ships.... 1) the continuing evolution for the DCL design, they get better and better. 2) the possibility of longer cruises and what that may bring to the ship's interior design 3) more input from current DCL cruisers.

Can't wait to see who will represent in the atrium, and who will be on the back of the ship. Plus hoping for another new adults only restaurant other than Palo and Remy -- maybe something Asian.

I would be surprised if there is not an Elsa or an Olaf involved...

And then maybe they will theme one of the MDRs Norwegian! That would be fun.

We've always hoped that they would honor Walt Disney's first creation -- Snow White -- by putting her and the dwarfs in the atrium. That would be a real tribute. I know there was a lot of chatter about it when the Dream Class was being built.

Like the Oscars that Walt got? Sounds like a great idea! But I am thinking that they will go more for new Disney characters. I sometimes feel that the classics don't get that much love from the Walt Disney Company anymore.

I am wondering when it is time to start a New Ship Rumors and Speculation thread... Maybe I should start one once the Wonder refurb is done. Unless someone else would like to start one. I just think it would be nice to have one place where there is an overview over all the news that will come out. I am already planning a trip to Papenburg when they start building the new ship to visit Meyer Werft. It is on the other side of Germany from me, but I think we will make a short vacation out of it and visit other sites in the area as well.

Too funny -- I just did start one! Great minds think alike ;)

You mean those giant floating blocks? Royal Caribbean has some ugly ships. At least Carnival ships still look like ships instead of floating blocks, I'll give them that. Hopefully Disney keeps the classic ship design. It's funny but seems like every port you're in with other ships, they're always admiring the Disney ships, and they seem to be acknowledged as the best looking ships.

I agree -- and there have been many articles written about their classy and stylish designs, and herald back to the era of classic cruising.

Well, the Magic & Wonder have horns. On the Dream class it's a digital system.
A couple of other lines have the digital horns also. I think Aida has one that played a certain Italian song, as well as NCL.

I take that back. It's MSC that plays 7 nation army

Hate to get into the promotion language debate but the compensation HR professional in me says it could be considered "promotion" if the newer ship has more complexity (could be technology related, navigation of a bigger ship related, etc.) with respect to being captain vs the current ships. They also could simply just have pay grades based on ship class and in this scenario it could also be considered a promotion according to their pay scale and job codes.

I am excited for the new ships! Can't wait!

I love Captain Henry, along with many others I am sure. I took my mum on 2 disney cruises - she travelled from the uk to come on them and she was quite frail but Disney looked after her and she was so excited to chat to captain Henry - he took the time to sign her postcard ( made her day) she never forgot it - she's passed away now :-(
I heard a rumor he was going to be going shoreside in the future - that is sad. He will be missed onboard.
We had Commodore Tom on the Fantasy last week - he doesn't seem as much fun - but he did make us laugh with his announcements - his pronunciation of " Jamaica" was very funny.
I think the other captain was Gus - he's funny - quite likes using the Mickey "vissles" as he calls them.

I have told henry on many occasions that he can never retire - he would be missed you much - he always laughs and says he has no plans too.
