Nice Beach On Gulf

We are going to Orlando soon and would like to see the ocean. Were is there a nice beach on the Gulf Coast side to spend the day with kids? We are renting in Davenport. Thanks

Clearwater Beach is nice. Also, you may want to go down to Bradenton to Anna Maria Island. There are some very nice beaches/areas around there. Both are easy to get to from Davenport.

I've heard great things about Captiva Island and Sanibel Island, which are further south from Clearwater. I'm hoping to hit one of them while we are in the area.

^ Yes, those are beautiful beaches. But now you're talking more of a 3-31/2 hour drive to get down there. If you dont mind that, then I would say go for it because they are great beaches. But if you are on limited time, Clearwater/Anna Maria/Longboat Key would be good bets.

I probably should have added that we will be away from Disney and in the Ft. Myers area visiting family by the time I try to prod dh to drive to one of the islands - so ours will not be that long of a car ride. To be honest, if I were day tripping to a beach from Orlando I would maybe head towards the east side instead. Which is what we are doing. We are going to spend an 'out of park' day in Cocoa Beach visiting the Kennedy Space Center and the beach there then drive back to Orlando.
