We were there last October and I could never get out of paying it. In fact the people just laughed at me for acting like it was optional made me feel a little dumb.

Thanks. Is this because of TIF or were there other issues with the hotel. Any tips to make our stay more enjoyable or should we change to another hotel?

We tried to get out of it at Ruths Chris Steak house, geez I can't remember about the hotel?? I did a travel zoo deal and now that I think about it I'm not sure it was included? I had that prepaid before we left. But basically if you stay in that tourist area you are going to get hit with that tax on everything you buy.

I found our hotel bill we didn't pay that tax:
2 Nights $150
Sales tax (13.00%) $19
Service charge (5.00%) $8
Facility fee ($3 per room per night) $6
Total price $183
Payment is taken in hotel's local currency: C$241.62

I'm getting $216.00 Canadian for 2 nights at the Courtyard at Marriott in NF, Ontario. This is for June 18-20, 2018.
