Next smallest resort to POFQ?

Anybody know which resort is the smallest next to POFQ?

I'm planning a trip with my mom in the fall. She's 58 & hasn't been to Florida since 1967! She's never been to WDW although she hears me talk about it all the time. I know she'd really love to go so I'm leaving my DH at home this year (he's waiting for Mission: Space to open anyway) & taking my mom instead. She's in pretty good shape but sometimes gets tired from a lot of walking. I don't want to tire her out at the resort before she even gets to the parks!

My DH & I stayed at POFQ on our honeymoon & loved the small size. We stayed at CSR the next year & it was absolutely HUGE compared to FQ! I know Mom would prefer a small resort but I can't think of any that compare to FQ size wise. I'm afraid FQ won't be open so I'm trying to make other plans. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

So far as number of rooms is concerned, any of the deluxe resorts are smaller than French Quarter, and geographically speaking they are also more compact. Beware though, that some of these have buildings spread out from the bus stops, restaurants, etc. - although none of them are nearly as spread out as CSR (and the farthest rooms in a deluxe will generally be closer than even French Quarter). Among the moderates, Coronado has the fewest rooms, but Riverside is somewhat more compact in size than CSR or CBR.

If you want a resort (other than deluxe) in a compact size, any of the All-Stars will be comparable to Port Orleans - French Quarter in regards to size. If you select a moderate, I'd suggest Riverside. Also, remember you can request a specific room location on your reservation, such as near the lobby or bus stops. This is not guaranteed, of course.

Thanks, DC7800! I never really thought about the Deluxe resorts being smaller. But it makes sense! Don't most of the rooms have hallway entrances rather than exterior like AS & Moderates? So they'd have to be closer.

We will probably stick with a Moderate since there will only be two of us unless I can get a stellar rate at a Deluxe. My first trip to WDW in 1998 we stayed at ASMu at Calypso. Those were pretty close to everything but now those rooms are considered "Preferred". And for the extra $20 a night I'd rather stay at a nicer resort than AS.

You've really been a big help! Thank you so much!

May Is suggest Wilderness Lodge. We have stayed there several times and just love it. It is much smaller than much other resorts, very quaint, you can boat to MK, & I think it would be just perfect for you and mom. The pool and jacuzzis are wonderful, you have the electric parade on the water at night and they have 2 wonderful restaurants. I have 2 friends that have just booked there and got a rate of $129. Can't beat that.

Have fun whatever you decide

Thanks, Minijeanie! I definitely would consider staying at WL. My DH & I went to Artist Point for dinner our last trip & absolutely loved the WL! Everything was so beautiful! And $129 rate is WOW! We paid more than that for our room at CSR in 2000 (of course that was before I found out about Mousesavers). Is their rate with a special code or postcard?

Thanks!

If you're a teacher, nurse, or a gov employee what about the Swan. Stayed there over Christmas with my Grandmother and she loved it! Very convienant and not too big. But near everything!

Plus, I don't know your mother's mobility. But if you're thinking of renting her an ECV or a using a wheelchair, the boats are much more convienant for this. And since the Swan uses boats to both
MGM and Epcot, this is a definite plus!

Unfortunately I'm a graphic artist so I don't qualify for any of those rates. Darn! But those are great rates for people who qualify.

Thought about renting the wheelchair but I know my mom pretty well & she definitely won't go for that. We'll probably just take a lot of breaks between things. Plus I figure that a good majority of the attractions you are sitting in something that moves you, etc. so she'll be okay there.

Thanks!

a friend of mine just got it from mousesavers. We are from NJ and don't know if there are restrictions with states. ALso, are you Disney Club member. That also gets you special rates sometimes.

I would also suggest WL or AKL... everything is housed in one building. If you want the ease of the monorail, then consider the Poly or the GF. If cost is a factor, check to see if PO-FQ will be open when you are there. We have ressies for Oct 19-26. Good luck:)
