Next Resort Build

Anywhere but DisneyWorld. Enough already!

The Caribbean would be nice.:cool1:

Another vote for a resort in the Caribbean. Seems like they could have a huge success building something themed around Pirates of the Caribbean.

It's really crowded at WDW now...building more DVC resorts there may make it unbearable. What about another shot at NYC? I know it was nixed many years ago, but maybe now is the time to take another look. Or northern California (SF)? Both of these could double as ports for DCL, just as Hawaii is expected to do, especially with two new ships coming on line in the next couple of years. One can dream right? :goodvibes

Poly. Villas at Disney's Polynesian Resort. :goodvibes

Just got back 2 days a go and had this same conversation with a CM (15 plus years), asked his opinion, he said never at GF. He said Disney wants GF to stay their flagship resort. I thought that's what they wanted at DL and there is a DVC resort there now. His thought was that the next DVC resort would be located between the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge.

Not a WDW. I am all for one in the caribbean!

Offsite please. There are way more than enough options at WDW and truthfully we don't spend all that much time in our rooms anyway.

I'd like to see maybe.... Newport, Virginia Beach, Montauk, San Diego, New Orleans, Aspen and so many others.

Myrtle Beach or Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg?

If at WDW, how about a new value resort type/dvc resort

Nowhere. Stop this madness. If it gets any bigger, members will never get anything at 7 months out.

I don't think this would be a problem if the next one was built in a desirable place. The current problem exists because SSR was not the attraction that Disney thought it would be, and many owners do not have the connection to it that owners of places like Boardwalk and Beach Club have. That puts pressure on the 11 month booking window, as there are a lot of SSR people looking to trade into another resort. I think the opening of Bay Lake (which will be desirable based on location) will alleviate that, and the problem could be greatly alleviated with another DVC opening at either the Poly or Grand Floridian.

My biggest concern is crowds at the parks. I don't have any numbers to back this up, but I think that the growth of hotels is outpacing that of the parks. In terms of getting on rides, we had a much more enjoyable time at Universal in August than at Disney.

No, most members will want to try other resorts at 7 months, so it will just get harder to get the busier times. Lots of SSR owners love SSR and lots of non-SSR owners also love SSR.

A Poly or Extension of VWL on the left before you go under the canal between the two lakes would be great (where there was some type of facility in the 70s) would be my ideal, although the VCC idea would be great if they could figure out a way to coordinate it within a cruise. If they could build part of either of them over the water like some of the Polynesian villages are that would be really nice.

If there are more resorts, then how would it get harder? That just doesn't make sense, unless the new resorts were less desirable. If 25% of owners at any given time were to decide to trade out, it wouldn't make a difference whether there were 2 DVC resorts or 200, provided all were of equal quality and desirability.......which they are not, and therefore that is the problem.

I totally disagree about SSR, and this is coming from an SSR owner. I would bet every last penny that the satisfaction rating of SSR owners is the lowest in the DVC family. Every penny. I would also bet that, despite the resort being new and many people wanting to take their first visit to their home resort, the trade-out percentage is higher among SSR owners than any other resort. That is a problem, which is why I think that any new DVC resorts HAVE to be in desirable locations with desirable themes or else the 11 month logjam at places like the Beach Club will be too great.

How often do you see posts where someone says they booked their home resort at 11 months and want to switch to SSR at 7 months? Not very often, if ever. How often do you see the opposite? All the time.

I have to agree with Rutgers1. I think they overbuilt it and many people bought with the intent to stay elsewhere (which is how DVC pitched it to many people), which has caused a strain on other resorts at 7 months. I think the opening of AKV and BLT has helped the situation. They give all owners more options.

I am not so sure these post are 100% accurate - especially now that THV is part of SSRs inventory.

How about VB and HHI? I bet they trade out a lot as well...
