Next Food Network Star ~ Official 2009 Summer Thread

I would watch him. I think he will relax some and if his show had a live audience he would really shine. I wonder if the network would take a chance that people want to get back to cooking on their cooking network. O don't need any more shows that tell me how to shortcut recipes, I know how to do that. i have been using Paula's cooking style for years now, half of my recipes I was using as long as she has, I want to have the Chefs back, I can monkey around with ground meat and know how to get a meal on in less than an hour (No way I can cook in 30 minutes, I don;t have elves to clean up after me ;)) This network is beginning to send me back to public TV cooking shows

I won't watch her. I find her as interesting as grass growing. She is comfortable in front of the camera but I am not sure that she is really going to have an asian cooking show. I keep remembering the various renditions of Angel cake and pudding.

Thats how I feel about Jefferey, its just the same thing over and over. I liked him at first but now its like one big yawn to watch him.

I agree that we need an Asian cooking show, I just am not sure that she is planning that. I think I remember that she is not necessarily trained in Asian cooking, something from teh first episode. This old gal's memory is not what it used to be but I remember something there.

I thought Debbie's whole thing was to combine southern cooking with an asian flare. I could be remembering wrong too, or mixing her up with a couple other contestants, I honestly can't remember what everyone's POV is :headache:

ETA I just looked her up on the website and this is from her bio:
Debbie, 39 (West Hollywood, Calif.), a former Hollywood caterer, now shares her branding and menu-planning expertise as a restaurant consultant. Her Korean heritage and Southern upbringing make a dynamic combination as she uniquely blends Asian and American cuisines. Debbie attributes her cooking chops to her mother, grandmother and notable chefs that she's worked with.

Food specialty: Korean with a Soulful Edge

Does anyone get the FN magazine? Dopey Debbie is opening a HOT DOG restaurant :confused3

That's either good news because she didn't win and she needed something to do.... or bad news because she's gonna win and this will just make it worse.

Gingered hot dogs, anyone?

With garlic and cajun spice:rotfl:

And soy sauce. Don't forget the soy sauce - that's what makes it Korean :teeth: never mind that when I was growing up, soy sauce made it Chinese.

I know, I just mean she has the potential to teach us ways other than soy sauce and ginger if she really was brought up with all that Korean cooking. I think that asian cuisine is one area that FN is lacking and maybe they are looking to her to fill that void.

If they're looking to fill an ethnic void they should just hire her, not waste our time with a contest that she's going to win because she fills an ethnic void.

I'm not saying that they are planning on naming Debbie the winner just so they can have an ethnic show, I'm just saying that she's really the only contestant to offer FN something they don't have already and it could widen their audience.

Then they should have left Ming on the channel. I just don't like her at all.

Michael would fill an ethnic void, I'm pretty sure he's from another planet. :rotfl2:

He's the most interesting and he's got the best food.

Anyone want to start a Debbie drinking game?

One shot for every "I'm Korean"

Two shots for every "Soul to Seoul"

Three shots for every "I'm Southern AND Korean"

Anyone still standing at the end of each episode is a winner!

The Debbie Drinking Game starts tonight - and if the previews are any indication or if we're lucky, it ends tonight, too. Yeah, yeah, I know. It's all in the editing. I'm going to splurge, on the assumption that this will be my only shot... pun intended ;)

I have my Tequila ready!

I've only got wine - you don't shoot wine so I am going in sips.

2 seasons ago they were letting that one guy thru - until it came out he lied about his background! so then the 3rd place lady came back, she ended up "winning" did one set of shows, and she's gone!

Big Daddy's House (I gag at the Big Daddy -I just dont call my dh daddy!!) is on another set of shows!!

I was watching The Chopping Block today and the food critic was the guy from Bon Apetit. One of the women in his party looked and sounded just like Katie the healthy girl! She was so cute there

I can't believe I just found this thread. I love this show and have been watching the past 3 seasons. My favorites this year are Debbie and Melissa. This morning I was like "Oh, it's another Sunday.....WAIT! NFNS is on tonight!" :cool1:
