Next Food Network Star ~ Official 2009 Summer Thread

Melissa, Michael and Jeffrey are my favorites. If any of those three win, I'll be happy.
I think they'll end up keeping Debbie til the end, however. They really like her.

Did I fastforward it too fast tongiht? Was there no advantage to being the winner of the hamburger, other than Bobby using the receipe?
And did they say how they decided who got what state to cook for?

I agree with your choices--I'd watch a show with any of them. A live show with Michael would be awesome!

I think I'm the only one who would like to watch a show with Debbie. I like to cook Asian food and some of her recipes have sounded good. I still wonder what she put in that Asian marinara.....

I'm kind of surprised that Katie's still there. I don't think she's going to be around much more.

I think next to go will be Katie, then Debbie. Then it'll depend on how the next few weeks shake out.

Melissa did great theis week. I'm glad she toned it down a bit. I felt bad for Jeffery, what was he thinking. There is so much he could have done with lobster and blueberries using them separately. I hope Katie goes next then Debbie.

I feel really bad for them when their dish fails due to the equipment, or other things beyond their control. I know that as chefs they need to be able to handle anything thrown at them, but in the real world they would have other options that they don't have on the show.

I felt really bad for Jeffrey... and what I love about him is that he just owns it. He obviously had some equipment problems, but didn't mention it at al.

They need to have a baking version of TNFNS. Food Network is seriously lacking in that department.

That's a great idea! I would definitely watch that show!

I would, I don't like her but I do like her food.
I don't think I could watch Jeffrey just because he's always talking about the heat and how it comes in after the.....
I would get his recipes online though :)

I am waiting for a Food Network show that is aimed at kids. That would be a great show depending how it was done.

Just watched it on DVR today. I do think they sent the right person home.

Even though Katie reeeealy should have known that turkey burgers would take too long to cook, she HAS shown improvement in her presentation based on their advice, and Teddy hasn't. I think she's kind of "on probabtion" though.

Jeffery just got a raw deal on ingredients. (I thought they HAD to combine the things in one dish.) I would never even consider lobster and bluberries together. And he has done well other weeks.

I do think Jamika kind of copped out on the simplicity of her dish (and obviously the potatoes didn't work right) but her manner with the crowd was really good.

I agree with other posters that Debbie played up the injury. And also that Michael does his best with a live audience. - They could definitely develop an interactive show if he wins.

This was the first week I really liked Melissa, and it was cute how surprised she seemed at the end.

You summed up how I saw this show as well. I cringed everytime Teddy opened his mouth. I pictured Emeril way too caffeinated :dance3:.

When I saw Jamika pop those potatoes in the food processor I :scared1:. I did that 20 years ago so I knew the gluey mess would not be good.

Melissa was much better this week, I think I could like her but I don't know if I could watch a weekly show.

This year the challenges all seem to involve developing the contestants TV personality. It really is a good thing because a few shows have bombed in previous years.

Heres my take on TNFNS:

Michael~ I would like to see him win. He has really serious food chops and I find him very entertaining. A studio audience or a call in show would work but I also think he'll get better and better given time. Aaron Big Daddy was terrible in front of the camera and look how well he is doing now. Michael has the most extensive cooking repretiore.

Jeffrey~ Although I think Jeff is very capable I think he would be boring on a steady basis.

Mellisa~ doesn't have the personality or talent Paula and Rachel have nor the cooking chops. Maybe I'm PMSing but her beauty pageant cheshire grin would make me want to choke her after about 2 shows.

Debbie~ I keep thinking of Rattatouie (Gusteaus makes it Chineasy). Enough already.

Katie~ I'd be afraid of her recipes giving me trichinosis. Learn to cook , its called heat use it!

Jamika~ already peakeda. I don't think she has the depth of talent to go on.

Elimination predictions - next week - Katie, then Jamika, Debbie, Jeffrey and Mellisa. Winner Michael.

I like Debbie and Jamika. Jeffrey is my next fave, and I don't care if he NEVER talks about his personal life! :lmao:

Melissa and Michael... I dunno, there is something about them that sort of turn me off.:confused3

WHY do they like Debbie so much?? She's rude, pushy, and overbearing! UGH.

Debbie seems comfortable in front of the camera (repeating herself aside - it's obvious she's of Asian heritage, but dang it, she's American) and that's something extremely important when doing a cooking show :teeth:

I don't particularly like, her, I'm not defending her, and I doubt I'd watch her show if she had one - just explaining why the judges seem to like her. Don't forget, they're getting less impressed with her food.
