Same here...

The movie is NOT sold out...but when you show it on 22 of 24 screens on a Thursday night...I suppose dec 17 isn't gonna be like memorial day

Yes, and the increase in availability will probably eliminate many sold out scenarios. I had a ticket for next Tuesday but decided to go earlier due to spoiler fear, so I checked my local Regal for a time tomorrow morning. I noticed that the 7:30 AM show only had a few front row seats available, but the 7:15 AM show was wide open, not one seat sold. So, on Monday night, after the premiere, I bought my seat and was the only one with an advanced ticket for that showing. I noticed many times were close to sold out and the time 15 minutes earlier or later were wide open. Obviously, the screens added later were wide open. I just checked my showing for tomorrow morning and now it is about 50% sold with the 7:30 AM show still showing those few seats open in the front row.
Both Disney and the AMC CEO shared today, thru numerous media outlets, that there are still millions of seats available for this weekend. I think the screens were added to make the money on the walk ups. Besides, as mentioned, not much competition. Now they want to make sure people get the message to come.
I'm very curious to see how much money it makes this weekend and forward. This is going to be very interesting.

Hah. Now I'm curious who...

But yes a very solid movie.

Without spoilers...ok...ill put the spoiler tag on anyway just Incase

[SPOLIER]I thought it was the 3rd best of the movies...maybe fourth.

Disclaimer - Jedi was always my personal favorite...though of course Empire was the best one.

I liked a lot of what they did...and the most Important thing of all was the first thought after the credits rolled was "what happens next?"

That means the movie worked 100% because I had that feeling after empire and even Jedi...

But...I think some of Abrams comments prior to were misleading.

He still did a great job and should be commended.

I also agree with many of the principle players - notably ford - saying that boyega, driver, and especially Ridley did a fantastic job. That is most important...they found young blood that can sell it.

Two scenes with the old cast were pulled off amazingly well.

I would say I would give it a 3.5 star or a B+ overall.

Not disappointed.

Just wanted to add... I went to the Opening Night Event last night, and the new fireworks are AMAZING! It tells a great story, is beautiful, and does some really interesting things with timing. It breathes where it needs to and knows how to be quiet for a moment.

I was always a fan of Symphony in the Stars, but this new show... it's fantastic.

This was my first opening night movie ever and with that I saw the very first showing at my theater. The atmosphere of seeing it with others was fantastic. The crowd was really into it.

I got chills when the opening credits started.

I don't have any current plans to see it again in the theater but I definitely would.

Saw the movie last night at 7 PM with a very good friend of mine who is also a Star Wars geek. At one point in the movie I remember thinking to myself that I loved every single moment of the film. Near the end there was one minor issue that I had but overall it exceeded all of my expectations.

The one thing that I can highlight without ruining anything is that I thought the acting from the new cast members was exceptional. It was so refreshing to see real emotion being culled out of this group of actors - something that was PAINFULLY absent from each of the three prequels. That emotion just helped thrust so much life out of this film and into the audience you could really feel it at times. I know that Abrams's story line and pacing styles can always be critiqued, but the performances he got from the majority of this cast were phenomenal.

I will be taking my kids to see it over the weekend possibly and I already can't wait to go back and view it a second time.

I have to agree...

Honestly...the acting is what makes it a good movie...not the story and certainly not the effects. It was visually stunning and cohesive. That was a feat. And why? Because they used sets and actors. It made the prequels look that much worse.

Ridley was fantastic. But I thought boyega and especially driver were exceptional. Really like how driver played And Abrams wrote the character.

And the relationship between the villians.

Definitely growing on me this morning

I also can't fathom Lucas's whining in the press over the last month...
"They didn't want my stories"? "It's like a bitter divorce"?

I mean...if I don't know better I'd say he wrote the treatment and better writers wrote the screen play...Abrams even kissed his butt in the credits front and center.

What do you want, dude?

Something else that I need to add to that and it is that there was such a gritty, visceral feel to this movie. I remember back to when I watched the prequels and they seemed so sterile. You could tell that green screens were used pretty much everywhere. In this movie, that is clearly not the case.

Completely agree. There is so much I want to say, especially about Kylo Ren, but can't yet. But yes, I think that they did a great job casting the new, young characters. The dialogue was so good, and the chemistry between Daisy Ridley and John Boyega was evident from the start.

Grease and the shining

I can't think of any other horror movies from the 70s

Wait...the exorcist?

BINGO!!! (The Exorcist, Grease, Star Wars, and Jaws are the 4 movies from the 70s still in the top 200 all-time moneymakers.) OF the 4 - only Grease requires the re-release numbers to stay in the top 200. The other 3 would be in the top 200 with there original release money, and would've been ranked 1,2 and 3 all-time on January 1st, 1980.

Trivia Time over - back to your regularly scheduled news-thread.
