News Round Up

When we were at MK in June, we saw Woody and Jessie at a spot near the Splash Mountain exit. They were fine there, but I kinda hope they don't bring a heavy Woody influence to the area. It's but a single aspect of Toy Story and I don't think of the American frontier when I think about that movie. I know Song of the South has nothing to do with it either, but so much of the story is told indoors that it doesn't seem out of place at all in the area.

I just think of classic Disney (Davy Crocket, Westward Ho) when I think of Frontierland -- not animated features set in the modern day (whether a central character is a cowboy or not!).

My thoughts are it would be more themed to Woody's Roundup than Toy Story in general. There's a lot of undefined elements they can work with in a Woody's Roundup section. Then entire 'Woody's Roundup' premise was that it was a show in the old west/frontier, including the Grand Canyon.

Anyway, it's just a thought, and one that I think would be executed quite well by Disney to add on around the tracks behind Rivers of America/Big Thunder Mountain. I know everyone wants rides, RIDES, MORE RIDES!!!! (and all E-tickets at that) but a mix of M&G, Character Dining (maybe even the old stage show they did in Frontierland at DL Golden Horseshoe), a 4D show, and two rides would be a very nice addition back there. Though not sure if $385M would be enough to do it all.

I also think that would maybe let them diversify the Pixar Place offerings at DHS a little, with a big Toy Story presence at MK (between this new section and the Buzz Lightyear attraction/M&G in Tomorrowland).

They could revive the Geyser Mountain idea for a frontierland expansion. http://disneyandmore.blogspot.com/2015/01/disney-and-more-tribute-to-wdi.html?m=1

That's the first I heard of "Geyser Mountain". I think there's little hope for something like that. #1 its a ToT clone, meaning it is unlikely to be built at WDW. #2 it was designed to go underground, quite possible in DLR and DLP but not at ALL possible in MK.

Figured I'd chime in on the $385M Frontierland Expansion...

I think the Frontierland expansion is happening because the foot traffic on the LB and TSI are not enough for that amount of dedicated land in the busiest park on property. Rumors were up in the air for years about the Liberty Belle being docked, so you can't say it would come as a shock.

While I believe a raft ride would be the most likely (and easiest to install with the track plans and moat land already laid out currently by the Liberty Belle), the queue line would probably be weaved through Ft. Clemens and the rope bridge would get a huge overhaul as the entrance. It makes sense. The dead end/smoke area at BTMRR would be the perfect place to install an overhang and connect to the current rope bridge area. Even with the small boat(s) going back and forth removed, you'd still be able to backtrack and explore the first part of TSI (up until the barrel bridge). They do have restrooms on both connected islands, so that shouldn't be a problem even after the new attraction is built.

I agree with all this. While TSI has its proponents, I think most would agree it is an extremely underutilized section of the park. Though I think they could come up with something that would still allow the Liberty Belle to function hopefully.

Child drowned at AoA

Unfortunate and sad. Make sure you always have an eye on your kids I guess.

Terrible. Nothing worse as a parent than this. When our DD was young we would watch her like a hawk for just this reason, and generally would only let her be in a pool if we were there with her. Even with lifeguards at the pools, they can't watch the 100% of the people 100% of the time. Now that our daughter is 12 and a very good swimmer, we are a little more lenient but still want her to remain within visual site of us. I notice many of our friends do not watch their kids so closely, and at pools I often find myself watching THEIR kids more than they do.

I agree with you. Keep Toy Story for DHS and stick with Classic Disney in FL.

Agreed!!!! Great article! Hope they build this.

Several places this could go, especially bringing guests under the railroad alla Space Mountain.

So exciting.

There is already a path under the railroad at Frontierland. They would just need to reconfigure the bathrooms and backstage buildings to the north of Splash.

Well spirit says that he has heard but cannot confirm that the toy story rides that were pulled at last minute from Shanghai will be coming to DHS because they had already ordered. If that's true it looks like we will get some toy story play land components in DHS.

Oh goody..second hand Chinese junk! Sounds like my daughter's toy box! :rotfl2:

The western river expansion could've been the greatest thing ever too. One of many great concepts that just never happened.

Any reason to believe Geyser Mountain could be built? You mentioned it has been discussed but I wasn't sure if you meant since the Frontierland expansion rumors.

It is a concept that Disney has and could be used we don't know much of anything about what this frontierland expansion could mean other than it will have an e ticket ride. An expansion has been on again and off again for many years.

As much as Jim hill gets flack as a rumor monger, he wrote an excellent series of articles on it. Also the book '40 years of magic' written by several notable Disney contributors also had a nice piece on it. Book was well worth the read.

Sorry for the off topic but the saga of western river interests me quite a lot
