Name and concept art announced for SeaWorlds new coaster. Mako will be 200ft high and go 70mph. Mako is supposedly the fastest species of shark.

It looks awwwwwsome.

It's almost like they read my mind ... as I get older with a weaker stomach and neck, I dislike looping coasters more and more but I really like speed, turns and "air time". That's why I love Big Thunder, Space Mountain, Everest.

Sheikra is great because although it has 1 or 2 loops, they're very big and smooth, not jerky and disorienting. Rip Ride Rockit is also basically loop-free since the car flips upright just at the top of the loop.

I think you're see a movement away from "loopers" and machines that disorient riders like X...

A wider audience can tolerate the speed and g forces of drop coasters with dive loops and boomerangs and such...

While I like inversions... Having once did 108 in a day at great adventure and about 85 at cedar point (I'd blackout after 4 now)...I can see the "ease off" approach increasing the popularity and shelf life of large attendance themepark rides.

Notice they aren't buildng anything 500 ft going 180 mph these days either.

Coaster looks great. I'm with those that, as I approach 40, prefer the big, fast, smooth coasters versus the ones with crazy inversions.

As for the person asking about Discovery Cove, its actually (by some measure, I forget which) the highest reviewed theme park in the world. I have yet to meet anyone that went there that didn't speak glowingly of it.

In all fairness, I am a bit biased. My wife works for SeaWorld corporate. With that said we've yet to make a trip to DC. Our trip last year was cancelled by my son's ill timed broken arm.

Haven't been to Great Adventure in ages, but the Great American Scream Machine (that was what...7 inversions?) was probably my all-time favorite coaster. I always thought the Batman coaster was overrated - which was good for me since that drew the lines away from the Scream Machine. I also always had a soft spot in my heart for Lightning Loops (showing my age I guess).

Lol...the scream machine is long gone... Thankfully.

It was responsible for 21 or 108 loops on my day and was one of my least favorite rides of all time. 7 inversions = 3 big headaches.

Just an arrow dynamics mess on rails.

The best coasters there now are nitro and medusa...kingda ka is scary but not incredibly fun. It's kinda like summit plummet -looks cooler from the ground.

I differ in my tastes, apparently... As raptor,
Montu, and alpengeist are still in my top 10 alltime coasters...batman on steroids.

I still enjoy getting park maps. I actually really regret not collecting past maps.

I haven't been in about 10 years...but we are planning on fanning out from LBV as the kiddos get older and going to "the competition" starting next year...

In fact...it's looking like we will be at Disneyland, and sea world/universal next year and skipping wdw except for perhaps lodging, waterparks, and downtown...

That's almost inconceivable if you look at my travel history/loyalty...

Good thing I'm not the "target audience" anymore ;)

Sea World in San Diego is gorgeous...as is the one in Orlando. Nothing like the "dumps" they really were in the 80s.

Mako looks like another solid addition, and another B&M to the park. I don't care for the Superman flyer clones at Six Flags, and I hate Tatsu at Magic Mountain, but I thought Manta was pretty good. The queue is very impressive.

Universal is really trying to build some momentum first it was the official Kong Announcement, then the Nintendo announcement, the Horror Nights announcement and now this.
They did say that they want something new for every year for like the next ten. Also they have a new resort Saphire falls opening either next year or 2017.

Well they do have the changes to Downtown Disney, and Avatar land, so those are big.
The point is universal keeps adding and adding. Avatar was announced years ago and has taken so long. Disney springs is shopping and eating. All of these other parks are adding new exciting attractions. Now universal is adding an entire water park.

Good point. I think Disney might consider the new Frozen stuff that is coming, part of the new attractions. But I see where you are coming from. Disney needs to make a bigger splash otherwise, they might start to lose some market share that they have always had.
