Good point. I think Disney might consider the new Frozen stuff that is coming, part of the new attractions. But I see where you are coming from. Disney needs to make a bigger splash otherwise, they might start to lose some market share that they have always had.

The only way wdw gets better is if they lose market share, attendance, or per day guest spending drops...

That is the only way now. They're not building for us anymore...it's for the golden parachutes on the Gulfstream and the California public employees pension fund at this point.

Hopefully that land that Universal bought up is a real indication of a 3rd theme park gate, add that in with Volcano Bay and their commitment to bolstering their on site hotel offerings and Disney might finally lose some market share.

Comcast = not afraid of Disney

You know what's gonna start to happen bigtime in the back halls of power?

Disney is gonna attempt to pull strings to destroy cable...to call off the dogs

Not that they haven't already or it won't happen organically anyway.

A little Disney affiliated computer company called "APPLE" has a vested interest there too.

Disney gets away with charging a huge premium for its cruise line. For example I found this:
In a study by the Unofficial Guide to Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean's prices were on average 60-70% less than Disney for very similar cruise experiences.

Very similar cruise experiences ... except for pixie dust which is really just a synonym for princesses. And the princess and cartoon theming will cost you only ... triple.

So I wonder if WDW is thinking they can be the Disney Cruise Line of theme park resorts. "You want to meet the princess from last year's movie? You want to come in July? How much you got?"

As go the cruise lines ... so go the resorts? I also found this in the article about cruise lines:
Disney puts on a lot of stage shows that garner rave reviews and they also offer character meets with Mickey, Minine and many other characters and princesses ... Many Royal Caribbean ships feature Broadway shows such as Cats, Mamma Mia, Chicago and more. Royal Caribbean has also partnered with DreamWorks Animation to offer just as many character meets, film showings and general character interactions as Disney.

So like I suggested before ... if DreamWorks could come up with a hit princess movie or two ... this whole "Disney Super Premium" strategy may be dead in the water.

Well, Universal is building quite a lot of stuff. They're doing what Eisner did with the Disney Decade thing back in the 90's. It will probably slow down eventually.

Of course they deserve the credit for building so much at such a fast pace. Just a reminder that Disney already went through that phase

If DreamWorks manages to survive, anyway. Katzenberg has to learn when a project is simply not good before greenlighting a whole slate of mediocre films.

Of course it doesn't have to be DreamWorks ... if Universal can make Despicable Me you'd think that they could come up with an imaginary, downtrodden but extremely plucky female character with a complicated emotional life who has a really good team of songwriters working for her behind the scenes.

I checked the Illuminations Entertainment (Despicable Me) wiki and they only have a single female-centered cartoon in the pipeline AFAICT ... Emily the Strange.

Dreamworks has "The BFG" coming which apparently features a plucky orphan named Sophie. But it's co-produced with Disney ... I wonder who got the theme park rights ...

C'mon guys ... wake up. Triple premium prices for vacationing princess fans?

They should bring back Anastasia. But then again, many people think Anastasia is a Disney princess.

I do agree with your point though. Some competition always makes things better for the consumers.

I do think improvements are coming...just S_L_O_W_L_Y. Disney keeps raising prices and keeps increasing guest attendance. People give Universal credit for spending A billion a year on new experiences, yet attendance goes up in %s larger than Disney, but the actual gains are almost identical. (i.e. If Universal gains a million people at the gate its a 5% increase, whereas the same gain at Disney is a 1% increase - note those numbers are not exact, just an example.)

Disney starts to worry about Universal when they see attendance actually go DOWN, which hasn't happened in what 14 years?

Comcast definitely has some money lying around to throw into their parks because of the termination of the Time Warner merger.

It's more than just that...

Comcast executives have a "why should we bow to Disney?" Mentality...starting with Brian Roberts at the top. And that's 100% correct with their cashpile.

Remember: this is the guy who went in cahoots with roy Disney to launch an unsolicited takeover bid in broad daylight to force michael Eisner out...

Right...that's not the "official reason"...but whatever.

Disney got a major, no nonsense competitor when Comcast decided not to sell off URO...

Oh, I know. I was just adding more "fuel to the fire" if you will. Comcast are willing to go up against Disney, and they have the means to do so.
