So comment was made about Star Wars being the 4th most popular ride at DHS. The fact is though the ride has a HUGE throughput. TSMM only tops out around 1200 riders per hour, RnRC in the 1500-2000 ballpark, whereas Star Tours is DOUBLE that of TSMM at around 2,500 when all the simulators are running. For that reason, if you have 2,000 people per hour in line at TSMM, the line will get 40 minutes longer for every hour of wait time. Meanwhile those 2,000 people will walk on Star Tours with no wait. So - you shouldn't judge a rides popularity solely by the length of the wait.

Yep star tours was really built well to accommodate people that's why it never seems to have a really long wait. The DHS version has more simulators than the DL version.

that was me and I was basing it on TPI ratings more so than wait times

EXACTLY! You just said it. The quality of the attraction is more important than the property its based on.

It works both ways....

Of course the ride has to be good as well. People aren't going to stand in line just because it's a Star Wars or Marvel ride, but it helps. People are more likely to do a bad Star Wars ride over a bad John Carter ride.

like all debates the truth lies somewhere in the middle LOL

Sorry to interrupt the news thread, but it saddens me when people are quick to dismiss Tron as the inspiration for a great attraction. While the movie did not set box office records, it was solid, and critical reception was generally very good. It won awards for the way that it looked and sounded. It was highly influential in its use of computer generated graphics. John Lasseter, himself, was inspired by the movie.

I'd bet that nearly anyone could look at a screenshot of that movie (heck, even a prop) and tell you that it's Tron. The design is great. Disney could absolutely tell a unique and captivating story with a ride based on that design.

Regarding Song of the South: it's sad to see how quick people are to repeat opinions based only on word of mouth. Hooray for those in this thread that have sought to set the record straight. It's also sad when people assume that all others share their own life experience. Song of the South would be recognized by just about anyone over the age of 40. It's been released in theaters multiple times, even as late as 1986. Nearly anyone in that age group or older would instantly recognize Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear -- not to mention the iconic music -- when riding Splash Mountain.

No, SotS is not universally recognized like many of the more recent -- or more frequently released -- animated/hybrid films. But much like Tron... there's a great base with which Disney can tell a story through an attraction.

I didn't realize that Frozen BBB was going to be at DHS. I don't get why they aren't just building a Frozen land there.

The girls are already getting their own land. In Epcot. A huge M&G hall, a ride, a restaurant with princess character meals, and most of the gift shop devoted to them. It used to be called the Norway Pavilion.

That's cool. This definitely seems like a show that you can let people pre-book their seats. I'm not sure how they will handle no-shows, though, as I would think a small percentage of people will grab passes but then not show up. Seems unlikely they will turn away people if their are empty seats.

They implemented FP only for Fantasmic at DLR last year. They do allow non-FP people to get seats but not until just before the show starts. They do not actually turn people away unless there simply is no room for them.

The article states that there will be a standby line at DHS.

Oh I am definitely aware of that! It's what I don't get, you have the Frozen Summer Fun stuff at DHS, DHS is about to get a major renovation/expansion/rebuilding and they choose Epcot to place a Frozen ride.

Any news about the tests done in June for the new nighttime entertainment at AK? Would love to be able to spend an evening there and not have to leave so early! Every time we're there they close at 5.

Nothing as of yet. The evening tests were probably them just gearing up for next year when they do stay open later for rivers of light and the nighttime safaris

Not cool on the Fantasmic! test. I hope they realise that if you assign seats, you'll inevitably have people put in the front rows with no clue that it's essentially a splash zone on windier nights. I'm okay with it and I'm usually down there most every time I go but others might not take so warmly to it.

Just got back from DHS. certainly very vacant and not a ton to do for a vet, but we got there at like 4:30 so no biggie.

The GMR changes are interesting. Pre and post show are very well done in my opinion, but the spiel part is kinda weird. I don't hate it but I thought the guide was stuck doing nothing half the time.

Just some casual day observation

Guests planning on visiting the Magic Kingdom Park in the next few days should note that, starting from July 21, 2015, the MyMagic+ service center located in the lobby area of the Town Square Theater will be permanently closed.
Park Guests needing assistance with their My Disney Experience accounts or FastPass+ selections will be directed to City Hall (located across the street from the Town Square Theater) or to one of the nearby Disney FastPass+ kiosk.

Hopefully more changes come in the near future to improve it even more.
