News Round Up 2020

I said the majority. The people who are waiting in the food lines most of them were getting by pay check to pay check and wouldn’t be thinking about going to Disney. i know a few people who are planning on going to Disney with the money.
So it’s not completely inaccurate like you said. Your post is completely inaccurate. Lots of people are hurting but it’s not the majority.
If Disney even opens back up. Lots of variables. At the earliest it will be after July 4th, but likely well into fall before something the size of DW can safely open.

yep I said before right here on disboards oct1 is my guess. Only my guess. Hope I’m wrong

It will be open before the 4th of July. By mid June the projections are for single digit deaths in the US. By the 4th of July according to the projections we will have gone over a week without any deaths.

There will be a second American revolution happening if America isn’t reopened by that point.

As much as I hope you are correct. We were planning on booking a trip for mid November, but in light of everything happening we are definitely going to wait. I dont want to spend the time or effort to only reschedule everything. I just think of how poorly everything was handled in Florida with shutting things down, they will be one of the last states to open up. Im in Indiana, we've been shut down going on 5 weeks now with our peak being still a few weeks out. Florida is at least 5 weeks behind us, could've been 2 if the governor wasn't money hugry and didn't want to lose spring break money. I hope DW opens back up, but its a long time away. If Disney China is any indication, it will be after October 1st.

Hillsborough County (includes Tampa) is now under a 9pm-5am curfew. Can’t even walk your dog during those hours. No end date. Masks will be required in public soon. Relevant to Disney because...tons of us are passholders. Disney reopening looking to be further and further away with so many nearby counties passing tougher restrictions.

Agree. I'm doing everything right and following guidelines, but there comes a point (WE ARE NOT THERE BY A LONG SHOT) where we have to open up. This is a scary and dangerous thing. But as time goes on more people become immune and there is less chance for spreading. Those at risk of course will need to stay safe and continue to take precautions, but we can't continue to ruin the economy because of a 3% increase in the overall death rate for a single year. (approximately 3 Million deaths annually in the US compared to the projected 60,000 C19 deaths by August is a 2% increase if you ignore how many of those 60k might have died from other illnesses anyway)

We could ban driving for a year and save WAY more lives. 38k people die on the roads EVERY year compared to the 60k that might die this single year. That is no less practical than what we are doing. The economy still couldn't function and millions would be out of work due to not having a way to get there.

Plus banning driving would take 38k to near zero if enforced. 60k are dying of this even AFTER shutting down the economy. No one knows how many more it would be if we weren't doing this, but I'd wager we are only slowing the death rate, not decreasing it by a substantial amount. Again, PLEASE don't take this as me saying we shouldn't be doing what we are doing right now. We 100% should. But we can't do it for a year. Many more would lose their lives, homes, jobs, savings, ect and it would be a much greater loss. The mental weight it is taking on people, and the fact that people can visit or have visits in the hospital from loved ones suffering from other diseases is awful. I can't even imagine the pain of people who have lost someone this month that couldn't be by their side or see them at all before they passed, millions dying alone without the comfort of visitors. There are so many ramifications of this.

I want us to save as many lives at possible, but there comes a point in everything where you have to weigh the opportunity costs and the pros/cons. If we aren't out of this by mid-late summer people are going to start to revolt. And if they don't that's almost scarier.

Im a big fan of this strategy for reopening, but I’m not sure most Americans will feel the same way or if we’ll be able to even put similar measures in place soon.

The health QR code is very interesting to me and I assume what you are referring to in terms of Americans not being comfortable. How does one receive a green QR code? And how would the US go about assigning something similar? The infrastructure seems impossible, especially given the fact that you would presumably need to be checked regularly to renew your green status. It's a good idea. I just am not sure how we'd go about it. But if China can do it with way more people, surely we can figure it out. Without getting political, I know the kind of person you might be referring to and am probably one myself. But I'd be 100% ok with it and don't see it as an invasion of privacy or stepping on my rights as long as it's done in the right way.

There is little evidence that FL is behind IN by anywhere near that much. As much flack as Florida got, and the doom and gloom predictions of us being the next epicenter due to snowbirds, elderly, and NY/FL dual residents, it just hasn't happened. Disney closed almost immediately after this became "real" to the country, closing 3 days after the NBA canceled their season. Florida has the 3rd highest population of any state, and yet we are around 9th in almost every category. Miami for whatever reason is by far the hardest hit, but the "quad counties" of Orlando as I call them, are no worse than my small home city back in Alabama.

And to Florida being the last to open up, I see it completely differently. If anyone rushes to open sooner than we should it's Florida since the entire state is built on tourism and it will hurt our economy and citizens way more if they don't. Not saying I would agree with that decision, but the cases/deaths will not be to the point that it will prevent Florida from reopening any sooner than Indiana or other states. Indiana is actually 5 days BEHIND Florida in terms of their first case. March 1 for Fl and March 6 for Indiana. Indiana is currently at 8k+ cases and 350 deaths compared to Florida's 20k cases and only 470 deaths. Considering FL has a population 3 times the size of Indiana, but we have less than twice as many deaths and slightly less than 3x the number of cases, I actually think Florida is fairing better than Indiana. Possibly due to our warm climate, but regardless, we aren't further away from our peak than Indiana or any state for that matter.

This ALL apples to oranges and I am in no way saying the numbers/facts are a 1:1 comparison, Indiana and Florida both rank below the national average of cases per capita and deaths per capita. Virtually tied in cases, but Indiana is far worse in deaths. (12th nationally in deaths compared to 24th nationally for Florida.

I wonder if that means they are planning to reopen soon.
I hope, but people need to realize we are 90+ days behind a DW opening if everything goes well in Shanghai. Which would still be well after July 4th, I could see a late fall opening.

I see the figures. Florida is much further away from peaking. The death rate will go up over the next few weeks because the governor waited. I feel bad because lots of people were exposed because of greed. Also you can't really take any of these numbers with any truth. Lots of deaths getting tagged as Covid death when they aren't.

Hmm I wonder if with all the talk about needing to open up with reduced Capacity, Hours and Staff, if Disney will actually do any type of Fall discount this year at all. Room or otherwise. They will need to make money no matter what, they know people are still going to go and now they have a official reason to have artificial capacity limitations so to keep the doors open and such, unlike the 2008 downturn or the 9/11 vacation downturn, I dont see Disney trying to entice people to come who normally wouldnt be able to afford it at rack rate. Ehh time will tell
