News Round Up 2020

This is completely inaccurate. Just look at the pictures of mile long lines at food banks to show that a large portion of the population is suffering financially. I don’t think anyone is looking at the $2400 as Disney spending money, they’re more looking at it as rent or only partial rent.

I said the majority. The people who are waiting in the food lines most of them were getting by pay check to pay check and wouldn’t be thinking about going to Disney. i know a few people who are planning on going to Disney with the money.
So it’s not completely inaccurate like you said. Your post is completely inaccurate. Lots of people are hurting but it’s not the majority.

Your point is taken but I can promise you that some people are using that money as Disney spending money:
9/11-9/21 POR. Just booked to make up for our Disneyland trip in May almost certainly going off the rails. Upgraded to POR to spend the check I’m apparently getting from Uncle Sam on something to stimulate the economy.
I know that I am absurdly lucky that I randomly wound up selling food and not photocopiers or construction equipment or whatever else is not selling right now, but I honestly consider it my civic duty as a lucky person to spend the money I'll be getting and putting it back into the economy instead of saving it where it does no good for anyone else.

remember the majority of Americans are not effected with income because of the virus. Many will have more money in their pockets. I’m sure there is lots of people thinking that 2400 dollars for a couple or say 3400 dollars for a family of four will spend that money on Disney.
The extra money from the government.
More money because they are not going out. Going to movies, restaurants, etc.
Saving money on gas and wear and tear on their vehicles.
saving money on their car insurance
And so on and so on and so on.

now I can see international guests being lower.I don’t know how the other countries are treating their people. Plus some countries might still be on the ban list.

I'm not sure where you got your information from, but this is wildly inaccurate.

the MAJORITY of Americans are relying on the good graces of the people they pay bills to, to be lenient about late and partial payments.

Rent, mortgages, property taxes, excise taxes and the like are still due.
Car insurance does not change just because you aren't driving your car. That is still a bill that comes due every month.
Water, gas and electric bills are higher because people are home all the time.
Grocery bills are higher - from a combination of people eating more at home, and many people utilizing grocery delivery services to avoid going out in public during stay at home orders (which make groceries more expensive ), and the overall cost of many basics going up (eggs in my area jumped over $1 more per dozen in a week).

Many people are out of work and for a large chunk of the middle- and lower-middle class, the extra UI payment every week still doesn't make up the lost wages even when paired with the regular unemployment payment.

Few people are using the stimulus check to take a vacation. Most of us are using to try and get our heads above water and stay there until things return to some semblance of normal.

most car insurance is going to refund somewhere about 15 percent of your car insurance during this time on lockdown. What I read here on disboards. Some higher than 15 percent. I know I got a email from my car insurance.
so your saying 50.1 percent or more of Americans can’t pay their bills because of this virus. I’m not buying that.
I’m going to be off every other week because of the virus that comes out to 1313 for the week. That’s more money than I would of made working 40 hours. Than wife making a couple dollars a hour more for this time. Than the 2400 dollars. It all adds up.
I know most states their unemployment isn’t as high as my state some not even half but with the extra 600 dollars they should be ok.
I do know lots of Americans are hurting because of the virus but it’s not the majority.
Also gas is way down.

yeah, if Disney is open late June where I moved my early May trip to, I will be spending more money on the trip because of the $2400 my wife and I will be given. We both have been working , her at her bank and me at home, through this whole thing. IF I were cooking all our food at home, I would have saved a bunch of money. However, we usually eat out one day a week, maybe two if we are on the run but because we met working at a restaurant 38 years ago, we know what that is like. I have gotten in my car at least once a day and went to a drive through or pickup lane to support the local restaurants either at lunch or dinner. Costs me more but I am going to spend it. They need it.

15% of my monthly car insurance is under $15 a month. That doesn't even come close to covering the increase in my electric and gas bill now that everyone is home all the time. In my part of the world most homes have natural gas or electric heat and appliances, so the cost of gas/oil is not having any positive impact on us. I definitely understand that even what happens in my state isn't representative for the whole country, but I am in regular conversation with friends and family in NY, NJ, PA, IN, CO, OH and WA and their stories are quite similar to mine.

I'm saying yes, many MANY americans are struggling to balance their checkbooks right now. It's not for one particular reason but a combination of multiple causes that combine in different ways for different people. I'm glad you are in good shape, but please don't take your individual situation as indicative of the majority.

Sad about having to wait for Soul, but probably the right call - this has potential yo be a big hit (I think) so don't want to limit that by at a minimum people fearing to go to places like theaters even if they are open by then. Plus this pushes it closer to award season nomination time

and for Raya, might work out better for it to move into next eyar and not be grouped in with the three originals that were set to come out this year.

So, it obviously stinks but might be some blessings in disguise
