The health QR code is very interesting to me and I assume what you are referring to in terms of Americans not being comfortable. How does one receive a green QR code? And how would the US go about assigning something similar? The infrastructure seems impossible, especially given the fact that you would presumably need to be checked regularly to renew your green status. It's a good idea. I just am not sure how we'd go about it. But if China can do it with way more people, surely we can figure it out. Without getting political, I know the kind of person you might be referring to and am probably one myself. But I'd be 100% ok with it and don't see it as an invasion of privacy or stepping on my rights as long as it's done in the right way.
There is little evidence that FL is behind IN by anywhere near that much. As much flack as Florida got, and the doom and gloom predictions of us being the next epicenter due to snowbirds, elderly, and NY/FL dual residents, it just hasn't happened. Disney closed almost immediately after this became "real" to the country, closing 3 days after the NBA canceled their season. Florida has the 3rd highest population of any state, and yet we are around 9th in almost every category. Miami for whatever reason is by far the hardest hit, but the "quad counties" of Orlando as I call them, are no worse than my small home city back in Alabama.
And to Florida being the last to open up, I see it completely differently. If anyone rushes to open sooner than we should it's Florida since the entire state is built on tourism and it will hurt our economy and citizens way more if they don't. Not saying I would agree with that decision, but the cases/deaths will not be to the point that it will prevent Florida from reopening any sooner than Indiana or other states. Indiana is actually 5 days BEHIND Florida in terms of their first case. March 1 for Fl and March 6 for Indiana. Indiana is currently at 8k+ cases and 350 deaths compared to Florida's 20k cases and only 470 deaths. Considering FL has a population 3 times the size of Indiana, but we have less than twice as many deaths and slightly less than 3x the number of cases, I actually think Florida is fairing better than Indiana. Possibly due to our warm climate, but regardless, we aren't further away from our peak than Indiana or any state for that matter.
This ALL apples to oranges and I am in no way saying the numbers/facts are a 1:1 comparison, Indiana and Florida both rank below the national average of cases per capita and deaths per capita. Virtually tied in cases, but Indiana is far worse in deaths. (12th nationally in deaths compared to 24th nationally for Florida.
