News Round Up 2016

Electric karts have far more torque than gas counterparts....even without the noise, the thrill will amaze most anyone. There is still noise from the motor as well as tire noise. Anyone who has been to a K1 go kart facility will certainly understand. My career is in racing, and I also race as a hobby, and my son races gas go karts. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt, we prefer electric race karts over the gas karts at tomorrowland speedway(but we still enjoy them none the less).
The biggest issue I see is the shear volume, the karts would need a constant power source as opposed to a battery system.
It would certainly need a limiting rail like the current cars, as allowing free range will cause inadvertent crashes and traffic jams. I do think Tron could be a good fit for the theme, though Wreck it Ralph theme could support racers, but I'm not sure that fits tomorrowlands theme.

Theoretically, the speedway could be re-themed to Wreck-It-Ralph/Sugar Rush, but then become part of Fantasyland for a better fit thematically. That would significantly shrink the footprint of Tomorrowland however.

Fantasyland always felt like EuroMedieval Fairytale land. Does video game racing fit that?

Videogames have been an important part of Tomorrowland for quite a long time, anyways. If the story of the ride took you inside a videogame, it wouldn't be that far from what Tomorrowland stands for. Unfortunately, I doubt we'll ever see an enclosed version of the Speedway, though that'd be really cool.

Although here's something to consider: if the Mario Kart ride at Universal ever comes into fruition, that'll be the perfect excuse for Disney to seriously reconsider the Speedway as it is.

It's not a matter of if it comes its when.

Let me guess - they load you into a 6 person seater on a track and move you from IMAX screen to IMAX screen which you watch with 3D glasses - occasionally being hit by some water thing that requires a spritzing?

No this is supposed to be much more than spider-man. They also filed permits for what appears to a Donkey Kong ride. They aren't messing around with Nintendo.

Apparently Disney is removing large cups from counter service locations?

That's kind of environmentally unfriendly, especially for those of us that already waste a cup to fill their water bottles, since the water fountain water tastes bad. I liked getting water in a big cup. The small cups don't fill our bottles, so we would need 4-6 cups of water between the 3 of us. Also, more people will be clogging the counters to refill their cups at places that don't have self-serve. Disney really needs to provide a viable option for those of us who are trying to do right by the earth and use a refillable bottle. We rarely get a fountain drink anyway. This sounds like a total cost cutting move.

I think there was also a permit that described a two person vehicle where one person drove and one person was a "gunner" ... basically described mario kart with one person to drive and one person to fling bananas and stuff

Not sure if it's been covered but while I was at the studios yesterday the walls around the busts have come down. Now the busts and signage have all been removed but that's it. Ivy is still on the wall circling the bare space where the sign used to be. But that's it. No food service location, no signs of one coming... Sorry for lack of photo.

Thanks so much for posting. :thumbsup2

I wonder if you adjusted for ticket price inflation, where would Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs and Mary Poppins would rank?

Edit: Snow White had the 10th highest box office when ticket prices are adjusted for inflation, putting it just over Star Wars Episode VII. 101 Dalmatians is just under the box office for Epsisode VII.

Yep. I think we had a photo a while back but a good and beverage location was supposed to go there. I'm not sure if it still is.
