Boy, who is making decisions like this...there are so many ways that they COULD have gone with this. Sheesh...unbelievable.

And if Disney sold just a skirt, necklace, and temporary tattoos, everyone would be upset that they are charging and arm and a leg for a non-costume.

Everyone always screams that they want more diversity in media, and then when they get it they have to go and complain. I see this as being no different than the Superman and Batman faux muscle costumes. Disney is trying to bring a Polynesian God (greater than a superhero) to the forefront and give kids the opportunity to dress up like him.

"Mommy, I want to be Maui for Halloween!"

"Sorry buddy, you have to stay within characters of your own race...don't want to offend the equal opportunity group."

After the growing controversies for the past couple years ("I am a culture not a costume"), a decision to make a costume like that is just plain stupid. Disney should have seen potential fall-out from it coming from miles away.

To me, this is right up there with the decision to launch the Jungle Book AK show as a replacement for ROL, after messing up that project announcement - it's like everything needs to be rushed to market, before really making sure it's a well-thought-through decision.

I can understand arguments from both sides. I don't think it's a big deal, but it's understandable that some people might get upset. What really surprises me is that this sort of consumer products usually go through very careful scrutiny in order to detect possible negative reactions, but apparently this one did pass the test.

No it will probably be at Theme Park Connection. Which is essentially Disney parks eBay.

By the way, Blaze at D Springs was very tasty IMO. $9.65 for the build your own (any toppings) isn't too bad, took some home.

And a great perch on the springs.
