News Round Up 2016

things are slower on both coast for a variety of reasons. in florida it has to do with strong dollar and bad economy in latin america. also zika has put a damper on florida travel. but one of the main reasons that have been heard is people waiting for the new stuff. They are postponing until 2017-2018 to enjoy all the new attractions. In ca , raising the cost of Ap's seems to have done the trick and also with the 60th winding down and nothing in the pipeline for a couple of years and half DL down, again people are waiting. when star wars land opens, crowds will show up again. but really in California they can go back to the days when night parades were seasonal as well as fireworks. also the holiday season is coming up in both parks and they used to not do night parades except the special ones for the holidays. and DL did soundsational twice a day when the parks were open late or did the holiday parade twice during christmas.

I was in Shanghai DL last week and wait times for rides were long - fast passes were gone for the most part by noon. I didn't see any signs they are struggling. Maybe the two hotels there are - both were very quiet when we were there and we were able to get in for a character breakfast at SDL Hotel just by showing up. There were only maybe 6 other families in there. LOVED both hotels especially the SDL Hotel! Pirates was unfortunately down the entire day so we didn't get to ride it.

And yet another aspect of my November trip becomes uncertain. As an obsessive planner, this is intolerable.

Ditto. And we are staying for 15 nights in Nov.:

ROL--Unknown

SW Fireworks--Unknown

MSEP-gone!!

Illuminations is the only known one @ this point

Well, they will still have Wishes, no? Also, from what I have heard the SW Fireworks are definitely around at least until the end of the year, but I guess not 100% gurantee

I think this is a lot of it - a combination of things for sure but I bet for people that only go ever few years or even less it makes sense to push back their WDW trip to wait for the new stuff currently under construction

And I do think a lot of people went to Disneyland for the 60th (I know we did DLR last October instead of WDW partly for the 60th so I can see crowds that have now done that backing off

I think also all the bad vibes that were directed at Disney - largely due to their own fault, from things that at least felt like Money Grabs and maybe less than stellar maintenance, etc. - also turned the casual fan off.

At least until they discover the current state of MSEP. I'm sorry, but that parade is ready to retire gracefully before it starts leaving nuts and bolts behind. I'm with Ryan here. They should give its own parade to WDW.

Just in my opinion, I do not think they would pay for a new parade unless it were absolutely needed. If a new light parade were to be made for WDW, it would be for the 50th. If anything happens, a refurbed MSEP would happen or FOF will happen at night because those are the cheapest options.

News

Boat in Fantasmic did not appear in the show tonight.

Not surprising at all. I'm sure it was put on hold until there's an investigation for insurance/OSHA purposes and the gap between the railing and the floor is closed so it doesn't happen again. The entire railing may be changed if they over react like they usually do to cover themselves.

So once again, reaction to an issue is better than being proactive. I can see the bean counters now trying to figure the "savings" of letting an accident happen and then dealing with it, rather than addressing safety issues ahead of time!

This is an OSHA violation and a toe board MUST be installed. Even if the Disney Lawyers use the its a boat not a platform argument well, it would be cheaper for Disney just to install it.

Here is a diagram of what I am talking about.

I'm not saying reaction is wrong - but I'm saying they could possibly change the railing entirely to remove all large gaps. I think right now the railings have a top, bottom, and middle that run horizontally. They could possibly add 2 extras running horizontally along with the toe board or even a net. This could completely eliminate the possibility of anyone falling through any gaps. Not that it'd be likely for an adult to somehow squeeze between the other horizontal bars - it could just be some extra protection.

well, yeah in a perfect world they could be proactive - but how can you think of every possible scenario that could happen unless you put everyone in bubbles or nets around everything. This show has run how many times and this only just happened?

Struggling in the sense that rides keep breaking down and they can't keep up. Crowds are coming but the park itself is struggling.
