News Round Up 2016

I think screening In Orlando by Mickey cops armed with flashlights and $9 an hour is "ineffecfive"...not "unnecessary"

Big difference.

I also think I don't want to live in fear...I don't want to have increased paramilitary style states...I think I'd take my chances.

But that's just me.

Then why is casing DS the big story?

So if in charge, you would remove the screening, metal detectors and the Sheriff standing in front of the MK?

Agreed that I/we would still go, but I doubt the masses would agree with you.

You know for a fact that the terrorist did NOT bypass on the MK because the bag would for sure have been searched?

You really love that tiered fastpass in Epcot, eh?

Can't put a value on the convenience of a figment fast pass...

Yes, no wait for Soarin will is a vast improvement the evenings we go to EPCOT. How is that hard to believe?

However, we usually RD EPCOT and do TT and Soarin within the first hour, then have FP+ for DHS or MK for that evening after lunch at the pool.

But the other parks are even better with FP+ on the evenings we go.

Awesome after our non park activities each week.

I can't see people throwing a fit if they replaced the current Winnie the Pooh with the tokyo version since that version is way better. As for ToT the DCA version is less superior to the DHS version. The DHS version is considered the best of them all and many think its one of the best Disney rides in the US. I don't think there is an attachment to the story of the ride but the ride has an overall theme that just makes sense and the ride system is incredible.

It's funny too - and not to get too far off the news topic, but I haven't heard at least on hear a lot of push-back against the DCA ToT change. As I think about it, it's a likable idea to re-theme one of them. If you think about Dinosaur and Indiana Jones, having two rides that are essentially the same ride (track is identical) but actually quite different in theme makes for one of the great things about visiting the parks on either coast. After having ridden the DCA version of ToT, I would now consider it completely skippable on any return treks to the west coast. If it were rethemed to a Marvel theme, AND matched up with a Marvel land (as planned) it would then become more interesting to ride when I get out there.

skierpete was pretty clear in that he was just 'joshing you' as he put it.
For someone who loves to use sarcasm so much, you sure seem to have trouble understand humor when it's aimed at you.

I disagree with the broken record comparison. Look at my posts here over the past year and you'll find I take a variety of stances on a variety of topics. Yours haven't changed one bit.

I could write a lockedoutlogic automated response bot and no one here would be able to tell the difference.

See there is where you are wrong...

I mostly watch these threads because it's the most "intellectual" out there...

I have no interest in recommending specific room numbers at Caribbean...strategies for booking chef mickeys at six months...or why club level "can't be beat"...

That's fine for many.

But...I spend a lot of time looking at dining and resort questions and offering fairly reasonable advice from an insider prospective. Not as much as I used to...but still.

So a broad brush doesn't work...even with me.

I love pete...just disappointed he went so budget on that quip...if you're gonna cut...cut it to the bone ;)

And as far as the "broken record"...blame
Iger. This is not a golden era for Florida...it is not. They are mining away at the underpinning more than securing it for the future.

But I'll wait to see if my instincts are correct there...I think they are. Similar to the dining plan take 8 years ago. Where'd that one go?

So it made $750 million in the US because the Chinese have bad taste in movies? :teeth:

No...it made $1.6 billion overseas because of it.

Did the force awakens make $3 bil? No...by your take it should have (wasn't good enough too...but if avatar was good...then why shouldn't it?)

lmao =) At first I read this as a joke (something like "Thanks Obama"), and then I realized you meant it. It made me laugh simply because it's nice to know some things can be counted on. And one of those things is that the sum of all discussions with you can be distilled to this very simple mantra.

I like to think you have a Blame Iger shirt and matching hat you wear to the parks on vacation.

It may seem like I'm picking on you all the time (when in reality it is only some of the time), but I respect your opinion when it comes to the birds eye view stuff. I just tend to actually pipe up when things turn towards what one perosn or another specifically finds useful or not. At that point it is subjective, and all the cleverly worded rants (your or mine) really don't make a difference.

To be fair, there was quite the hub-bub on here when the rumor first came out a while ago so I think a lot of the venting happened then. Now people have just accepted it - and the fact it might (likely?) be just at DCA so people are relieved about that point

Not to go to far down this rabbit hole - but I get along well with @lockedoutlogic partly because I don't take him too seriously. He also makes some good points, but also can come off as rather one note. (Even his positive comments tend to sound negative.) However - there's little benefit to get in a sparring match with him - minds will not be changed.

I would say it's better to end the sparring for now anyways - and let the thread we've back towards the news topic it's meant for.

If this were poker...I would say "call" and then be content to wait for the flop and see what's on the table.

I don't find it "fashionable" to blame Iger...as many blamed Eisner during my time there...

...I've liked very little that he has done specifically with WDW. Some other things have been better. I think he took an incredible, one of a kind foundation (that never could be built now) and has systematically exploited the finer qualities. Maybe the East Coast is "dying" and I don't like that either...perhaps that's it...

And it's not just him...it's a puppet board, greedy hedges and fools
With etrade accounts. It's a bad system for that place longterm.

But if I have a macro/"birds eye view" of things...rather than momentary carefree approach. I'm guilty as charged...

But...does that make me a Disney hater? Ask yourself in the aggregate...

1. I agree

2. Some opinions are better than others...nobody has a right to be "right"

3. Nobody is undefeated on these boards...very few people are above .500

Now back to the ovaltine hour ;)

( many things I say are just the guts of things...and people's heads explode like an 80's movie. Others are 100% mad hatter plays on reality. You figure out which is which :) )

Because ultimately...there isn't a damn thing they can do about it and operate the place the way they need to to make the money they must...

Disney parks are 50% psychology...minimum.

Nostalgia is a big marketing tool Disney uses over and over to promote their theme parks. We all have fond memories of the classic rides we loved when we first visited a Disney theme park. But there's something current management doesn't understand: it's really dangerous to have your guests coming back as adults and getting reactions such as ''I remember this ride being better'' or ''I guess as a child this was a lot more impressive than it actually is''

We may find charm in the classic attractions, but the newer generations are not easily impressed with cardboard cuts and UV lights. I think they've done a good job at Disneyland updating their rides while keeping them classic, so hopefully those changes will also make their way into the MK. BTMR is probably getting the new finale, so that's a good start.
I disagree. I think most parents that come back have their feelings matched, cause now their children are riding those rides. It is nothing like seeing your loved one experiencing and enjoying the same thing you did as a kid. Few expect the ride to be what it was to them when they were a kid, in fact some come in with lower expectations and are surprised how much they still enjoy it. Sure there is people that don't feel that way, but those people aren't the ones that Disney is targeting and winning over and over again.
