News Round Up 2016

Aw man... that ride is SICK!!! I was hoping it might be a "one and done" type of ride for us, but I know my 8yo daughter will now have a new favorite ride in all of Disney. I can predict she'll walk off that ride declaring that day the "BEST.DAY.EVER!!" Well done, Disney!

Disclaimer: Maelstrom was already closed when we took our first trip to wdw.

The projection mapping AA has been around for a while (It's used on all the Cars in the Carsland ride.) The technology is pretty amazing. They essentially are projecting a movie on the face of the character - and the projector's movement has to be in sync with the movement of the character in order for it to work. Yes, the dwarves in the mine train ride use the same technology. The effect makes a live action AA look more like the animated character. Next time you are on the mine train (and now this ride apparently) really LOOK at the faces of the characters and observe how seemless it all is.

For those freaking out about the 300 minute wait - it IS opening day, and to a lot of people, seeing a new ride opening day is all important. (Plus remember there is FP+ available as well, and it was a slow loader to begin with.) I would expect waits in the 100-200 minute range for the first 6-12 months though! We will definitely be FP this sucker next trip.

Remember the rumor that there wouldn't be a standby line at all? Guess that was another incorrect rumor.

Our DD(13) is one of those that has reached Frozen saturation. She loved frozen for about 6-9 months after it came out, and then decided she HATES it. When we want to torture her, we sing "Let It Go". She's already said she doesn't want to ride it in October - but we'll get her on it. However, she was terrified by the trolls on Maelstrom so we never rode that either.

Edit: Still avoiding the videos, though.

Well, I'll be darned. It's not bad for a quick 'capitalize on the hype asap' job. I'm guessing they've been working on the tech since long before the deal was sealed. Still won't be riding it for a long, long time (and I live here)...but still.

Not sure what about it was quick. We took a trip in October 2014 and it had already closed - so it was closed for at least 20 months. That seems like plenty of time to do a complete overhaul on a ride that is using essentially the same track - not a "quick" switchover.

I got a FP for Frozen tomorrow. I must say I'm excitied to see it in person. While the story is different some of the design choices were similar to those in my mental version of the ride.

This may be a dumb question. Are all 3 theaters open for Soarin' because it is posting a 200 minute wait even with Frozen Ever After open? The tier 1 fastpass for Epcot may be hard to plan around.

All three theaters should be open. I'm not sure if they are all operating right now but they should be open. I'm guessing crowd levels are high at Epcot anyways due to the opening.

There were reports that Soarin' was having technical problems at park opening so it is backed up trying to catch up ... later in the day should be better I think
