News Round Up 2016

Aren't those parking lots already pretty small?

I guess you are getting a $10 bottle of water, but still....

They are not as large as a parks lot but you could be a bit out from the entrance. Not sure if it's worth $15 though seeing as parking is free (or was) for all guests.

So isn't this worse? I mean it looks nice. But I'm assuming the fold down bed is not as comfortable as the other bed. I guess this is ok if you actually spend a ton of time in the room, but I definitely do not when staying at Pop. It's probably not going to keep me from staying there, but this is a negative to me.

At AoA, I thought it was very comfortable. My mom preferred it.

Hi All -
I don't post often but as a WDW fan, I just got back from 3 days at DLR and wanted to share.
1 - Hyperspace Mountain is fabulous. Better than I (or my kids) ever expected. If you have the opportunity to get to CA before it ends, do so.
2 - Chewbacca meet & greet was the highlight. I know they have this in FL too, but we haven't made it down since it opened. He was 100% convincing and fabulous to interact with. The m&g session was one party at a time - we got about 5 minutes with him alone. It was great. (but it was a separate line than Kylo Ren and I couldn't get my teenagers to stand in another m&g line)
3 - Lots of dirt being moved at Star Wars land - nothing exciting to report unless you like watching earth-movers.
4 - The paint the light parade is a definite improvement on the older light parades. It lasted a full 30 minutes. My kids were impressed, and the younger kids around were amazed.
5 - BTM's cave explosions are impressive. I seriously hope they replace the "stuck" falling rocks in MK with these effects.
6 - May in Anaheim is quite chilly
7 - The hatbox ghost is way cooler in real life than in the videos - but you pass him really fast and the doom buggy turns so you really have to pay attention to appreciate him
8 - We caught the first performance of the grand opening of Frozen at the Hyperion. There were some technical glitches, but overall it was an impressive performance. The Actress performing Anna was very impressive. Elsa was amazing at Frozen but didn't seem quite as deep in her other numbers. Olaf was spot on - perhaps even better than Josh.
9 - oh, if you get the chance, go to the Plaza Inn for dinner and get the fried chicken. It is a quick service restaurant with table service prices, but the best food we ate the whole time.
10 - $25 for the Tie Fighter popcorn bucket is ridiculous!

Agree with 1,2,4,5,7 and 10! The others I don't know about.

Good god, look at those machines. I get they were installed years ago, but have some pride, they look so beat up. Is there anything else on Disney property that has THAT much wear and tear?

When it says, "Guest can still create their own CD's..." is that referring to actual park music, because if so I wish more of those were around the park.

I wonder how many more VHS's they have left...

Apologies if this was already posted and I missed it, however I've seen no discussion regarding this, so I'm going out on a limb here.

BizJournals recently dug up a Universal proposed theme park sub-district (with a marked transit connect) based on their recently acquired land.

http://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/blog/2016/05/universals-proposed-changes-to-i-drive-add-new.html

As the text is hard to read, here is some info:
The area at the bottom (marked with a 4) is Sea World, Aquatica, and Discovery Cove.
The main area outlined, 8, is land recently (re)purchased from Lockheed Martin. This plot is right behind major tourist attractions along International Drive, such as the Orlando Eye, Madame Tussauds, Ripleys, and Golden Corral (lol).

To put area 8 into perspective, it is nearly twice the size of IoA, USF, and CityWalk combined.

The little satellite area 8's, connected by a "transportation connection" are likely parking/entrance areas. Some sort of raised tram/train/monorail system is likely to be the transportation as it crosses over water most of the way.

Ultimately, we are looking at a new gate here. And with the amount of land we are talking about, it is very likely going to eventually be 2 new gates (or just one reallllly huge one).

Between Pandora, Star Wars land, Nintendoland, and whatever Universal has got cooking on this plot of land, the next decade is looking like a silver age (potentially golden) for theme park immersion and development.

I also find it interesting that the Orlando Eye is *right* smack dab in front of what appears to be one of the new entrances. Universal raised a big stink about the development of it, and people assumed it's because it could be seen from the parks... No one guessed it was because it would be right across the street from their new park...hah.

The new universal property plans were brought up but no one mentioned the transportation connection. I noticed that connection a few days ago. I'm interested to see what they go with.

As for the Eye, yep. They have not been very happy with a lot in that area because like you said they are building a theme park there eventually.

News(?)

KennyThePirate's character locator is showing that Bolt is meeting in Hollywood Studios in the Great Movie Ride Courtyard. It was updated on 05/30.

Since we talk about characters leaving locations (Marie), I figured it's worthwhile to know when a new character appears.

Side question: I get when people get upset that characters they like are no longer meeting (Marie), and sometimes their departure is said to be due to budget cuts...but if other characters are popping up in different locations, isn't it a net gain/net loss of zero?

For example, Stitch used to meet in Tomorrowland, then he went away. Marie used to meet at the Main Street Flagpole, then she went away. Stitch now meets at the Main Street Flagpole, and Bolt is now at the Great Movie Ride Courtyard. That's still two characters, probably with the same "friend". I see how it can be a loss for Magic Kingdom, but if they are adding characters to other parks, isn't it break even? Maybe I'm not understanding fully?

Generally character changes are limited to a single park.

If I remember correctly, the MK character switches were: Rafiki for Stitch, Stitch for Marie

I believe DHS is the only park to have a positive gain recently with Olaf. There was some other movement that allowed for Bolt to be brought in: Minnie left Disney Jr meet to join Mickey, Pluto moved into Minnie's spot, this left an open courtyard spot that is currently being filled with Bolt.
