News Round Up 2016

So I guess the down time was to add the extra theater and changing the movie might be just additional IT dev. hours to finalize the movement of the ride along with the movie and when they're ready they'll switch the movie and whatever key that controls the movements of the ride.

Are you expecting the 3rd theater to be open with the old movie between next month and June?

It should be. The closure was for the 3rd theater, the new queue, and the rearrangement of the bathrooms.
The new film is a digital file, as would be the ride movements. They can probably deploy those overnight. They've probably already tested them.

Based on the news that Sony is officially having a Men In Black/21 Jump Street crossover movie, I'm not so sure an Aunt May solo movie was not in the cards.

But sorry to get off-topic, back to Disney :)

I see people all over so against it. I wonder if people actually SAW the 21 & 22 Jump Street movies? They very cleverly made fun of the type of movies they were and the fact that they were 21 Jump Street movies. Especially 22 Jump Street, which spent much of it's run time making fun of itself for being a sequel while at the same time doing some of the things it was making fun of. Then at the end made fun of the unending sequels that could come from a successful movie - including parodying cast members being replaced and the like.

Here's a link to a bunch of the posters: http://collider.com/22-jump-street-sequel-posters/

So I think the idea behind the MIB/Jump Street sequel is to play with the ridiculousness of the concept even further.

Turning it back to Disney - Lord & Miller - the two guys that did these two movies and also the quite brilliant Lego movie - are on board to direct the Han Solo Star Wars movie. I imagine they will give it a more serious tone than the Jump Street movies, but I am hoping there will be a lot more "fun" to it than we get out of most of the Star Wars movies.

I'm not saying I'm against it, I loved 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street. I'm a big fan of meta-humor. I'm just saying that it's a thing that is happening. And if that's a thing that can happen, an Aunt May solo movie wasn't out of the realm of being possible. Just like if DC ever wanted to do a Batman Cinematic Universe (Batman, Nightwing, Red Robin, Red Hood, Robin, Batgirl, Oracle) I don't think an Alfred Solo movie would be off the table either. Alfred has a pretty rich backstory, but I'm not sure if Aunt May does (literally, I have no idea because I haven't dove into Spider-Man comics the same I've dove into Batman comics). Now that I think about it, I would love a Batman Cinematic Universe that led up to a Court of Owls/Night of Owls story.

I think it will be really interesting to see what Lord & Miller do with Han. I've liked everything they've directed so far, I'm excited and I'm not even a big Star Wars fan. For some reason I just think they will do great things with the character (even though they aren't writing it).

Yes the third theater should open next month as well.

Apparently Shanghai needs some more workers

Good read, but I don't think the "Disneyfication" of Epcot in completely a bad thing, especially in the World Showcase if it gets kids to get interested in the countries. Something where now that you have met so and so, lets go learn more about that culture. Not sure if it works or not (mine is too young for that to work really well, though it does get her interested with like "Look, that fan is like Mulan's"), but I do know when I was younger I was bored at WS.

I know on our school field trips that it was all downhill after Norway....

I don't know if that reasoning works on everyone's kiddos. But it works on mine.

I'm just happy The Amazing Spider-Man was such a failure. They were trying to set up a Spider-Man cinematic universe and an Aunt May solo film was slated to be made. That's just what I want to see, 90 minutes of Aunt May taking her Rheumatoid Arthritis medication.

Maybe it was to be a crossover with the new Indiana Jones film.

We've had this discussion a couple of times before. In my opinion the internet has killed the concept behind Epcot. Back in the day the stuff that Future World offered was exciting, new and it was just something that you didn't have access to on a regular basis. Nowadays, smartphones and the internet allow us to have access to all that information and more in a matter of seconds. Not to mention that technology is always evolving, which has resulted in the same problem Tomorrowland has experienced countless times: even if they updated Future World on a regular basis, it would still feel dated in a matter of a couple of years.

On the other hand, World Showcase used to be a very unique and exotic experience, the closest you could get to actually visiting those countries. Nowadays the generations that are growing with stuff like virtual reality and whose attention span is much shorter find World Showcase boring and uninteresting. Disneyfying World Showcase may sound outrageous to those of us who still find beauty in those things, but in reality that's just the way in which you can capture the new generations' attention. I personally don't think it's that big of a deal, but that's just an opinion. And I may get many ''well, my kids still enjoy World Showcase'' type of responses, but let's be honest, WS is more of an adult attraction nowadays.

Just to clarify, I'm not excusing them for abandoning the Epcot concept. The park should've never reached its current state. It's just a difficult concept to work with given its nature.
