News Round Up 2016

Whether the muppet rumor is true or not, the notion that they "have no place there" is a bit off. The muppets have long been used as an education tool. If adding a muppet host or something to the HoP gets younger kids in there, then I'd be all for it.

I can see people being upset that it is 100% the exact same ride it has always been. And even if it isn't directly related to the HoP, just having a few muppets in colonial garb in the area could help spice the area up. I think it's a bit silly to hold that part of MK up to realistic scrutiny when you have silly characters in every other corner of MK doing M&G's.

For me personally, MK is the most classic 'Disney' park, and it doesn't feel quite right for acquired IP like Muppets to be there. (Or Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel..) I think HS is the perfect place for the properties.

Ghostbusters hasn't even come out yet, geez give it a chance.

As a female, I'm thrilled we're getting strong lead women characters. I didn't think Rey was any more cookie cutter than a male lead would have been.

Us girls finally get someone to root for. I remember, being a young kid when the sw prequels came out and I discovered there would be female Jedis. Then my disappointment when I realized they were all one shot background characters.

I'm also confused as to why the rogue one actress is considered a cookie cutter female action lead. Um... Just about every male action hero is also a cookie cutter lead. You could basically insert Jason statham, Sylvester Stallone or Tom cruise for any action male lead and it'd be the same character. Tortured loner male gets embroiled in a fast paced action setting to rescue damsel/family/country etc. I fail to see the issue with having a generic female action lead over a generic male action lead.

Yes - maybe we can allow these movies to come out before judging their merit?

I'll let the Star Wars discussion slide but ghostbusters isn't a Disney property lets refrain from going there especially when the movie isn't out yet.

Well that's the point. Rey *wasn't* cookie-cutter.

Yeah, not really. The exact problem with lead roles in movies is that the bumper book of movie archetypes has plenty of workable models for male actors, and only a tiny handful of options for females. That needs to change, otherwise we're at risk of drifting into blaxploitation style stereotyping.

I completely agree about Ghostbusters. That went too far. I loved Rey. They did that perfectly.

A tend to disagree that the talk about Ghostbusters doesn't belong. They are using Ghostbusters as an example of how it was done wrong, and how Disney is doing it right. It is plain as day (to most) what they did with Ghostbusters before even seeing it -- we do have some intelligence to see it. Just like we could see that what they did with Rey even before seeing it was well done. I think (most) are just worried that Disney will error on the side of Ghostbusters on the next film, rather then how well they did it in a force awakens. That is why a discussion involving ghostbusters is ok.

I know there are other threads, but wanted to post it here as well. All of the morning magic hour tickets are sold out. I'm stunned. But I don't know why....

ETA: Someone is kicking themselves for not charging $99/ticket.

Apologies if this is covered in another thread - but did they say how many tickets there were? I.e., how limited was it?

Not that I've seen. The fact that it sold out so quickly gives me hope that they did put an aggressive cap on it....

I might get blasted for saying this, but here it goes...

As one of the big Star Wars fans on this board, I loved TFA and I absolutely loved Rey. She was a great choice to lead the new franchise if that is indeed the way they are going.

That said, I am not a fan of the currently hollywood trend of sticking female leads into franchises/reboots that are mostly a male demographic. Yes, it's great to have strong female characters, but not just for the sake of appealing to a different demo. I don't like that they are doing this back to back with their next movie. I'm sure I'll be hyped when Rouge One comes out, but this trailer didn't impress me very much. Then again, it's just a teaser.

Side note, Ghostbusters looks like it will be awful as well.

I sort of agree with you and I must admit one of my first reactions was "another female lead? So another Rey?" ... I absolutely love Rey, and maybe it is just because it feels like 2 movies in a row going in this direction - though perhaps that says something that there is still a ways to go that "2 movies in a row" stands out to me

That was my issue with it. She seems to have the same backstory as Rey, not because it's another female lead. Coming so soon after TFA, wish the writers could've come up with some other reason for her being in that situation.
There's going to be comparisons between the two characters just because (at least in the trailer) they seem to be too similar. Maybe the film will add more to her characterization that will differentiate her from Rey, but this was my first impression.

Same here. Love Rey! Thought they could have made Rogue One more about the entire group rather than primarily about ONE person.

If any movie title support a story about one person, I think "Rogue One" does it.
That being said, I'm betting Forest Whitaker (sp?) plays a prominent role.

Well, until I saw the trailer, I always assumed "Rogue One" was the name of a ship or something. It (for some stupid reason) never occurred to me that Rogue One meant "the person who is rogue".
