News Round Up 2016

Well, until I saw the trailer, I always assumed "Rogue One" was the name of a ship or something. It (for some stupid reason) never occurred to me that Rogue One meant "the person who is rogue".
You were pretty close rouge is a x-wing squadron. So rouge one would just be a call sign for one of the members.

I sort of agree with you and I must admit one of my first reactions was "another female lead? So another Rey?" ... I absolutely love Rey, and maybe it is just because it feels like 2 movies in a row going in this direction - though perhaps that says something that there is still a ways to go that "2 movies in a row" stands out to me

Maybe we're being introduced to Rey's mom...(okay probably not, but it's fun to speculate lol)

I'm not sure. If every movie ends up looking alike, with essentially identikit female lead roles, that's not doing much for anyone. A caricature character is still a caricature.

But weren't they that before? I mean look at the late 80s early 90s action movies and tell me the male character wasn't cookie-cutter replaceable. Action movies generally have shallow characters.

And if you saw two movies in a row with a male lead, would you have the same reaction?

My son will be excited to learn tonight that his favorite ride opened the day he was born. I personally do not like it. I rode for the first time in September and I made my 10 year old son old my had through the whole ride. Yes I was scared to death of this ride. he was not happen and told me next time I am not allowed to hold his hand because he wanted to put his up.

I like the ride, but I think I'm the wrong height. I always seem to smack my head when the car runs in reverse.

I've been wondering that myself considering the other big names that are associated with rouge squadron. It seems to be a pretty popular theory right now though.

You picked a pretty careful span there. To my memory, '88-'92 did not yield a bountiful crop of good action movies. Wasn't that the era of "let's find the next Arnie" featuring Lundgrem, Van Damme, and a hopelessly unconvincing Stallone[1]? If so, yeah: that period stank, and precisely because of a slew of derivative, identically shot movies, featuring derivative, identically cast muscle men.

[1] There were others too I think, but they all blur into an over-played VHS mud. Thankfully my local video store was also the off-license. I spent my movie money on cheap wine, it was more fun.

10 years, and poor Yeti.... Do you suppose he's qualified for a disability pension by now?
I only rode it once before he became disabled and it feels like yesterday! Time flies when you're having fun at WDW or day dreaming about the next Disney vacation. :)

I picked a span I'm familiar with. I'm not sure anything has changed. I've yet to see any evidence that female protagonists in action movies are significantly less varied than their male counterparts. They all fall into a very narrow range of of archetypes.

I did think the actresses looked a lot alike and had that same reaction. That would be a very good reason to have the "same" archetype lead this movie...like mother, like daughter is not uncommon:)...it would be 30-40 years prior to the new movies and the cast actress looks within a few years of Rey's age in the new movie (so have some adventures, sleep with Luke, have to settle down and have Rey - later killed b/c of either her previous' actions or to get even with Luke)...yeah, I totally see it!

This article doesn't frame the situation well. I do think WB should have killed the project when Disney announced their film in 2013, BUT... there is no stopping now as principal photography is complete. I'm sure WB is kicking themselves. That said, these are the same executives that thought Zack Snyder would be perfect to lead the DC Movie universe.

Mostly I'm just worried that when (if) the film tanks, they'll blame Andy Serkis who probably deserves a fairer shot as a director.
