News Round Up 2016

That's one really weird configuration for a central hub. I've always thought that the basic central hub with radiating lands concept was perfect for a theme park, but I guess that doesn't work that well for the Chinese.

The place looks massive. Can't wait for the walkthroughs.

Not sure if it is a question about not "working that well for the Chinese" - I think it is just the park is so huge that the "hub" was big enough to fit attractions inside it and to make room for the viewing/seating area for the show in front of the castle. You still get the same effect of lands branching off - just the "hub" serves multiple functions.

Will be interesting to see how it functions in real life though knowing how they had to expand the hub at WDW to handle the increased crowds. And agree about being excited to see the walkthroughs!

I guess I don't see what's different...the ones reading the blogs already know how to go in and modify the times to what they want. Those that didn't accepted what they got. This will just put everyone on an equal footing of being able to pick from whatever is available when they pick.

I think it makes it potentially makes it much easier especially when planning for multiple people, not all of whom are doing the same thing, to see what is offered when in a snapshop and pick accordingly.

I agree not a huge change, but that pre-selection thing always annoyed me and made for extra steps

And being able to then see what is available in other parks for picking your 4th may also help with decide what park to go to next and when, etc.

So if these changes come to pass, while not revolutionary or anything, I think will really help make using the system easier

I have posted several updates regarding the walls, new concept art, and more in the DHS construction thread.

The prosecution rests...

Yes, extra bands cheat the system, but their FP+ choices can only be picked same day so again, all of the changes we have discussed are normally done 60 days out so it had nothing to do with our discussion.
Defense rests. :-)

I do agree more rides are needed...anyone who has been to DL versus MK sees the difference.

Not quite "gaming the system"...but it will put large amounts of stress on the fp system in the mornings and standbys at night...my guess

I think there will still only be a certain number of FP+ per time slot. I don't think they are changing the distribution of FP+, just allowing people to choose their time from available times up front.

The 4th+ FP+ on the app does affect same day FP+. I think this is what will make the cheater bands not as useful. I would much rather reserve stuff on my phone than having to go to a kiosk. With the cheater bands, you can get 3 at once; however, the selections are hardly ever tier 1. MK is really the only park that it's somewhat useful. I don't know if the system can handle it though. The infrastructure and wifi at the park barely handle the current traffic. I usually end up switching to data by the afternoon, because the wifi is so slow by then.

Some things aren't "up to opinion", you know?

Some things are just _tupid

...fill in the blank ;)

This is the problem...since everybody has an opinion...everyone is "right"

Nobody is wrong.

To take this beyond Disney...that's a worldwide recipe for catastrophe...

We see it already...nobody is "wrong" so they dig in their heels on bad ideas.

You see the danger?

So how do you decide when somebody is wrong? Ban cabanas worldwide because YOU think they are stupid?

The only danger I see is getting pounded when I go to a cabana at the Four Seasons and call the guest stupid for renting it.

How about we just eliminate cabanas...since they are 100% unnecessary?

Doesn't matter to me-I'm there for the sun 100% of the time. I only rent for the family. But I won't walk over to a cabana and ask someone that rented "just how stupid are you?"

Vacations are not 100% necessary either.

You already can choose your own times, it's just convoluted and annoying. Select the rides you want, pick the A,B,C,D that has the times farthest from what you actually want, then edit each FP individually and pick the time you want.

Remove the A,B,C,D for convenience, but you still have to choose a time and go during that window.

There are two reasons I can think of that Disney implemented the system in its initial form (it could easily be a combination of both):

1) To make it simpler because people struggle with choice. That sounds dismissive but it's true, plenty of research has shown it. Giving them a time eliminates the decision.
2) Because then Disney could spread the load out more evenly throughout the day.

The change is a benefit for those who like more control, but comes at the potential cost of less even guest flow.

Yes Disney can still adjust the actual number of FP+ slots, but (and it's a big one) most of the rides you get on you aren't using FP+. So you go to the area where you've picked a FP+ and then probably hit a bunch of rides in the same area. I know some people use more sophisticated techniques, but most don't.

Encouraging guests to pick any times they like could (emphasis on could) jam up flow round the park by increasing the number of sub-optimal (from Disney's perspective) plans. It's hard to know for sure, you'd have to model it and only Disney can do that accurately. Guest flow is hugely complicated, FP+ was in part a method to help regulate it.

We don't know exactly how it's implemented though - they could still have A,B,C,D, but then have "Choose your own plan" as an additional option.

Final Dream along with Mickey Performance

I'm really glad they got the balloon release in here. The support for this show was amazing.
And because of the weather, this was actually the only performance of the day which really made it even more special
