News Round Up 2016

I saw reports that Florida is one of two places in us that are expecting colder than average temperatures from March to May. The rest of the country is expected much warmer than usual temps in the same period.
We go in May to avoid the high Summer temperatures and crowds. The afternoons are still hot enough to sweat through your clothes most days. I would be perfectly okay with it being 5-10 degrees cooler. :)

What uproar? People are discussing it. I haven't seen a single lighted torch or pitchfork.

The most I've seen is people saying they think it's a bad idea they aren't threatening a worldwide boycott. Discussion is the point of this place.

I wasn't implying in any way that we shouldn't discuss it. Obviously I agree with discussion, or I would be on a discussion board. :confused3 Our definitions of getting in an uproar are different. Based on the current discussion, it is clear that some people are upset at the mere idea of not being able to take food into the parks. Upset/uproar...whatever you want to call it. I was just saying that I will wait to get upset until there is something to be upset about. Just my personality. Life it too short to get upset and worked up for no reason. Didn't mean to cause an uproar with my comment...:rotfl2:

Yup, May is our time as well, its generally great weather, but it does get hot. We had a day last May we went into the park, grabbed some Casey's and went back to the resort, it was too dang hot.

Last week of May is always a great time, not slam packed but also not ghost town

First couple weeks of may are even better :)

Love to refute revisionist history that gets talked about "Disney NEVER did it that way!"

So here's the history of ALL WDW of nighttime entertainment:

Magic Kingdom:
Fantasy in the Sky: 1971 - 2003 (32 years)
Wishes: 2003 - 2016 (13 years)
Main Street Electric Parade: 1977- 1991, 1999-2001, 2010 - Present (~21 years total time over 39 years - not counting the years it ran in Disneyland)
Spectromagic 1991-1999,2001-2010 (~18 years across 20 years)

DHS/MGM:
Fantasmic!: 1998 - present (18 years)

Epcot:
Iluminations: Reflections of Earth 1999 - present (17 years)

MK Resort Area:
Electric Water Pageant: 1971 - Present (45 years)

So, let's stop calling Wishes OLD HAT. It is the shortest lived nighttime show in the history of WDW. Second is Spectromagic, which ran for a "mere" 18 years. The average lifetime amongst the 7 shows is just under 24 years.

Another point - before 1998 there was ONE park with a nighttime show. Come 2016 there will be FOUR.

Oh - and "Fantasy in the Sky" was also the fireworks show at Disneyland from 1958 to 1999 - running for 41 years.

SO, sorry everyone... Disney ALWAYS did it that way.

This and a lot of other things come down to people missing the effect the Internet has had on our perception. Before the news sites and YouTube you only really got updates by going to the parks. Things felt new longer because your options to see them were limited. Construction went faster because most people didn't know when it started just when it was announced by a sign at the park.

Not to say things haven't changed some on disneys end but people forget they actively remove some of the magic for themselves all the time.

I commented a few months back that there's were plenty of rooms available on relatively short notice...I think there is a travel slowdown rolling out in Florida...

And could it be because...GASP...the right reason for the first time in history?

Honestly...my mk choices are down to crystal palace for breakfast (occasionally), Liberty tree for lunch (rarely), and the taco salad at pecos

I still don't think it's the same. I miss the taco salad with the ground beef. You don't like Columbia Harbor House?

Who said "Disney didn't do it this way?"

That's isn't the point I was making.

My point was it isn't good enough for the price hikes. Old stuff at double the price is the Iger credo.

The standard defense of "wishes" is "look at all those people in the HUB!!!"

...that proves that the wounded calf gets taken first and that PT Barnum was right :)

Oh...ma...god...

They changed the menu?!?
I had no idea.

(I hate you right now)

No...I don't like harbor house...it's bleh seafood to me.

Sorry to break the news. There's still a taco salad; it's just a lot different. Have you tried Friar's Nook, aka Mac n Cheese Palace? We might try it this trip.
