I don't think Shanghai is affecting crowds at all because Shanghai is not being marketed at to the US.So, I've been a little surprised by some of the offers that have come out of Disney for their busier times of year (modified free dining during the summer, the rollback of spring break restrictions for FL residents etc.). I wonder if the opening of Shanghai is having any impact on the number of visitors they are anticipating. Between Shanghai and the AK expansion I'm hoping that crowd pressure is relieved a bit! Once the DHS expansion opens that should help too.
I don't think it will hurt much at all. Shanghai is in main land China and most of those people don't travel much. A lot of the foreign travelers to WDW are from Brazil or Europe. Europe has a Disney park and that hasn't affected them coming to the US much.I know Shanghai is not being marketed here, but a significant portion of WDW visitors are from overseas. We're not talking about huge numbers, but rather than making the trip to the U.S. it wouldn't surprise me if they are staying closer to home.
Sorry to break the news. There's still a taco salad; it's just a lot different. Have you tried Friar's Nook, aka Mac n Cheese Palace? We might try it this trip.
