News Round Up 2016

NewsBreaking! Two new Cruise Ships announced for 2021 and 2023.

That's big news - that tells me they still feel there is a market to expand out there for the high-end family cruising (which Disney most certainly is). I wonder if this means they end up with a permanent West Coast or European presence. (More likely the former, as I don't think there is much of a cruise market in Europe outside of the summer.)

Iger says nothing about Star Wars land.
.
WDWMagic has someone reporting that it was stated SWL in DL and WDW would break ground in 2016...and it is leading to speculation on SWL being in a different area. Any more news on this?

It's about time they added a couple. What will be interesting to see if RCCL's moving of Oasis of the Seas to Port Canaveral has any impact on DCL pricing or will these two new ships out do the Oasis for features so folks will still be willing to pay that premium.

The Disney-owned Marvel movie brand was conspicuously absent from plans to rehabilitate Hollywood Studios. Although Disney bought Marvel in 2009 for $4 billion, the Florida theme park rights to Marvel characters like Spider-Man, the Hulk and Captain America continue to be held by Universal under a long-term contract.

Asked in an interview in July if Universal would ever sell those rights, Thomas L. Williams, Universal’s theme park chairman, answered with one word: “No.”

Buahahah Iger says MM+ Has done its job to "improve people's experiences" hahahaha. It was supposed to make money, not improve experiences, interesting he isn't trotting out even veiled numbers to try and claim MM+ has improved the bottom line this time around ....

I didn't see that on the live blog I was watching so I don't know.

I take it you're not familiar with this type of call?

It's all about putting as good a spin on the numbers as you can, that's its only real function.
This would indeed be the first one I've "watched", so yes, not that familiar. Guess I was just expecting...

Yeah, there are several people that could take a credibility hit if this turns out to be true...
Well just reading WDWmagic, Martin is in flux trying to get confirmation on what things are happening right now. It seems that Star Wars could've moved up and into the LMA area rather than expanding into the parking lot. This of course would make sense with the closures. I believe I also read the phase three could've then been moved to the animation courtyard area. Everything seems to be up in the air right now.
