News Round Up 2016

I still like OUAT I mean sure it was better earlier on but it could be worse.

While I respect your opinion, each characters motivation (specifically Evil Queen and Rumple's) has changed so many times that it's just confusing now. And the showrunners know that. That's why they did what they did to the Evil Queen at the end of the last season (not going to get into spoilers).

They are running out of ideas, and have been for a while. Time to put it to bed.

Could be interesting. Have you noticed the recent trend of taking their theme park mythology to other media? Sure, they've explored with that before, but right now they have the Haunted Mansion film, the Jungle Cruise film, the BTMRR series, they recently had Tomorrowland, they have the Night at the Museum type of film, the Marvel comics and so on. I wonder if Disney is concerned about the theme park division, or if it's related to Hollywood's originality crisis. Maybe both.

Are we talking about the Eddie Murphy film or the potential Ryan Gosling/Guillermo Del Toro film that would cause me to die a happy man?

I don't even understand how they're running out of ideas! They have an entire world to play with but the storylines keep falling flat.

I think part is originality...because the street doesn't allow expenditures on anything other than "sure things" anymore.

But I think they are also trying to insulate the park business. They have been for years with DVC...but that's not good enough now anymore. They want parks to be a "necessary" park of the consumer psyche...not a "cool" or "neat" part of it.

That is ESPN again...a backbreaking profit driver that is dying because it is technologically obselete.

Because they rode it too long...fluff for blind subscription fees when people will shortly not have to pay the fee anymore.

I can't wait for ESPN direct subscription for fees when cord cutting turns the tide and the ad dollars start to decline.

It's gonna fail.

But I think they are being warned behind the scenes that the park business is vulnerable too...I think it is personally but time will play it out.

It's about stock price...new ideas don't equal guaranteed profits like Star Wars and Ironman do...that's the Hollywood of today with all mega conglomerates.

Ruins everything...just like airlines and banks and pretty much everything else.

Someday...I hope we know the real reason behind what exactly led to the abandonment of PI...lots of valid theories...but I think we don't know the real story.

I don't ever see them building something that elaborate to provide an intimate experience again...

It provided more value than the money spent to those who loved it...and That won't be tolerated.

And yes...that does give credit to joe rohde

I would love to know the real story...... and I strongly agree with the rest of the comment, and remain hopeful I (we) am (are) wrong.

Part of it was internal sabotage starting around 2000...for the dumbest of reasons...but classic WDW management anti-logic.

I'll give you a hint...they did something similar at specific types of restaurants in the 90's as well...for similar reasons.

But that...is another story ;)

Disney theme parks rarely cross to the live-action realm. Pirates and Haunted Mansion are rare examples of that. Then, out of the sudden they start to work on projects for Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Tower of Terror, BTMRR, Tomorrowland, more Pirates, a cancelled Space Mountain project and probably a few more I don't even remember. They are also strenghtening the classic fairytales people associate with Disney by making all these re-makes. I'm sure that's mostly because of Hollywood's trend of making safe movies. It's just interesting seeing the pattern. Don't get surprised when Disney Springs: The Movie gets announced next year.

Tomorrowland has a new area manager or boss which is why we are seeing the subtle upgrades/changes. The CoP paint job and sign, rock painting, and more to come.

Good on him/her. Do you think this is related to the story a while ago about how they were restructuring management to put specific people in charge of specific areas? I wonder if they have been given a little more power to make things happen.. I think it's very cool to see these things actually get done, even though they're smaller changes. Put together they add up to a better land - and Tomorrowland desperately needs some aesthetic changes IMO.
